Olympic Award Ceremony Costumes
On Thursday, July 17th, the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympics unveiled the components to be used during the awards ceremonies of the Olympic Games. These include: official costumes, victory podium, awards certificates, and bouquets. The designs reflect China’s traditional culture, but with a modern twist.
The costumes unveiled will be worn by the hostesses at the 302 medal ceremonies of the 2008 Olympic Games. There are five different series of costumes, and each has its own color. The colors are white, blue, green, and pink. Each series has three styles, one for tray holders, one for medal presenter escorts, and one for athlete escorts respectively. Each costume is based on traditional Chinese clothing and features many traditional elements such as jade accents, and embroidery. There is also a formal suit designed for the male flag bearers.
Besides the costumes, the designs of the victory podiums, bouquets and awards certificates were unveiled. The victory podiums have been named the "Jade Belt and Lucky Cloud". The podium is bright yellow, which symbolizes honor and respect. The official victory bouquets are made of Chinese roses, the official flower of a large number of Chinese cities. The awards certificates are made from silk, traditional brocade, and paper made in Xuancheng, in Anhui Province.
