Getting Around in Beijing

By Taxi:
The easiest means of getting around in Beijing is by taking one of the city's many taxis. The drivers are always happy to give advice to visitors. Visitors do not need to worry about not being able to get back to their hotel, because every hotel will offer its guests a business card written in Chinese and English that will inform the taxi drivers where you are staying and how to take you back there. Some visitors like to hire a driver for a day. It is much cheaper than using the meter, and is very convenient.

By Bus:
There are many public bus lines which can take you to the every corner of Beijing. Taking the bus is one of the best and most convenient ways to get around the city. The cost of the bus depends on the distance traveled. Most busses do not have cash boxes, but attendants who take the money and can help visitors know when to exit the bus. The public buses make stops at all of the city's major sites and the commercial centers. There are some express busses which connect the major sights such as The Forbidden City, The Great Wall, and the Summer Palace.

By Bicycle:
One of the primary modes of transportation around Beijing is still the bicycle. It is also a perfect way for visitors to explore the city. It offers visitors the chance to stop where they would like, for as long as they want. Bicycles can be rented from many hotels.

By subway:
Beijing's subway system is the best in China and has recently had some major additions. It allows visitors to quickly and conveniently get around the city. The subway goes to most of the important sites in Beijing. During rush hours it can be quite crowded, but is still very convenient.

By Air:
Located at the east of Beijing city center, is the Beijing Capital International Airport. It is the quickest and most convenient way to get around China and the globe. There are many bus lines going there. Beijing is connected to all of China's major cities and cities in other countries by air.

By Train or Bus:
Getting around China by train or bus is the most common way to get to most cities. Beijing has two main train stations. The Beijing West Railway Station is located at Lian Huachi East Street and can be reached from the city center by bus. It is the one most commonly used by visitors because most of the trains that go to places outside the region begin at this station. The Beijing Railway Station is smaller than the Beijing West Railway Station. Beijing also has several bus stations. It is recommended that visitors be cautious about their belongings and personal safety while using these two modes of transportation.
