1) The downstream sailings take less time;
2) For the downstream sailings, the ship will drop anchor at midnight, and starts sailing in the early morning, while it keeps sailing both at day and night for the upstream sailing. Thus when sleeping the noise is much less and you get better sleep. That's why - For many ships, the downstream cruise is more expensive than the upstream cruise.
3) The excursion sites are also different.
The Dress Code is casual during the day and while on shore. Shorts and t-shirts are fine, even in the dining room.
There is usually a captain's welcome dinner on the first or second night, and sometimes a farewell dinner (on some of the ships) on the last night onboard. It's usually a cocktail dinner with buffet. You may dress comparetively "formal" - but I bet you can always see some people with informal even very casual clothes.
Remember, it's YOUR cruise and you should wear what's comfortable for you.
The Three Gorges Project is the world's largest hydroelectric power plant so far, which was started in 1994 and will be finished in 2009. Now the project has entered into its 3 rd stage construction, in this period, all the turbine generator units will commence generating electricity, and the entire hinge project will be successfully completed.
The Yangtze River is situated in the subtropics with about 30 degree North latitude, featuring strong wind, humid and less sunshine. The average temperature is 30 C(90F) in July and 10 C(50F) in January. In summer, dramatic thunderstorms and heavy rains often happen to make the water level high between July and September, while winter is short and cold. Thus, spring and autumn are the best seasons for taking the cruise.
Inside the cruise ships, central air conditioners are installed, since the cruise includes some outdoor activities, we recommend that you do the packing according to different seasons:
Spring & autumn: woollen coat, jacket, rainproof coat with a cap, comfortable walking shoes.
Summer: light cotton T-shirt, shorts, sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, rainproof coat with a cap, comfortable walking shoes.
Winter: fur coats, jacket, windproof coats with a hood, comfortable walking shoes.
Please note: you need to prepare some nice clothes for the cocktail party and the banquet which will be held on cruise ships, and if you are willing to participate in the entertainments on board, you can bring a particular outfit with you. But remember: it is OK to attend the party in casual clothes.
What's the cabin like on ships?
Most of 4-star & 5-star cruisers have 1 or 2 presidential suites, several deluxe suites, all of the cruisers will have quite a few staterooms, some of which have balconies. All the suites and cabins feature remote-controlled satellite color TV, central air conditioning, acoustics, in-cabin IDD, private bathroom with hair-dryer and extension phone.
