Yu Garden in Shanghai
Yu Garden,it has been developed with the constructions of many new buildings, store houses and restaurants but they have all been built in the Chinese style, however, a small area still exists of the truly 'old Shanghai'.
The antique and quaint Yu Garden
Located in the interjacency of the Fuyou Road and the Anren Road, covering more than 30mu (approximately 4.941ac). It's a classical garden of Jiangnan (areas south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River) style with more than 400-year history. The pavilions, halls and porches, zigzag bridges and waterside pavilions, rockeries and wonder stones, small ponds and dragon wall, the irregular old trees and the precious flowers are staggered and set off one another everywhere in the garden. This garden is famous for its quiet and beautiful surroundings and comely designs and the exquisitely carved style. The design style of the Yu Garden is elaborate, and it's spacing of layout is reasonable, it embodies the architectural art and skills of "multum in parvo" while building a garden. The Yu garden has synthesized the best art features in building the ancient gardens of Ming(1368A.D.~1644)and Qing Dynasties(A.D.1644~1912),which is the sole ancient garden in Shanghai..
