All three meals on board are Chinese and western buffets.
Western and Chinese cuisine in both restaurants, including provincial gourmet dishes from various regions of China. The food is delicious, one of traveler said: "The food was as good as any food we ate at the five-star hotels where we stayed as we toured China".
Onboard activities are subject to change according to river conditions.
Welcome Party: The Captain and crew will welcome guests with a party. The crew members will perform folk dances and traditional music for the guests. Dinner and drink will be provided. At the end of the party the Captain will toast the guests and all will be welcomed onboard. During the party guests can have their photo taken with the Captain.
Tai Chi Lessons: Tai Chi is an ancient form of Chinese martial arts. It is mysterious and slow. It brings peace and health to the mind and body. It does not have the swift and violent moves found in other forms of martial arts. Every guest on board China Regal Cruise will have a chance to practice this ancient art. Each lesson is taught by a trained Taiqi master and lasts twenty to thirty minutes.
Majiang: Majiang is an ancient Chinese game that uses tiles. The staff on board will offer instructions on how to play the game. It is amazingly addictive and fun. It is a game that can be learned in a short time, but will take a lifetime to master. Feel free to play this exciting game with your friends or with the ship's crew.
In Cabin Movie: The in cabin movie will be Chinese blockbusters. Each movie will be either English dubbed, or have English subtitles. The in cabin movie will change according to the season.
Chinese Herbal Facial: A traditional Chinese Herbal Facial is the perfect way to pamper yourself and let your troubles fade away. Your Chinese Herbal Facial will be given by a trained masseuse.
Chinese Shadow Puppets: Chinese Shadow Puppets have a history that goes back thousands of years. A shadow puppet show was one of the staples of ancient Chinese entertainment. The show consists of puppets made of thin leather controlled behind a white cloth. The light from behind makes their shadows appear on the cloth. On your cruise Master puppeteers will show how this amazing art is performed.
Chinese Traditional Painting: On your cruise you will get a chance to see how traditional Chinese paintings are created.
Tour of the Bridge: If you are lucky, you will get a chance to tour the ship's bridge and see how these huge vessels are controlled.
Chinese Folk Dance Demonstrations: Crew members will demonstrate local folk dances. Different Chinese minority dances will be demonstrated for your enjoyment.
Chinese Vegetable Carving: A master chef will demonstrate traditional Chinese vegetable carving. You can watch while a carrot is transformed into a flying dragon chasing a pearl. It is really an amazing art.
Farewell Performance: To say goodbye to their guests, the ship's crew will put on a final performance. This performance will feature more song and dance performances. The farewell performance is the way the crew says thank you for taking your Yangtze River cruise with them.
Each guest can choose any or all programs that interest them. Of course each guest can choose to forego these activities and simply relax. Feel free to read a book in the library, have a massage, or play chess or card games.
Can we have a cabin with balcony?
We will do our best to meet your every need, but not all of the staterooms have balconies. Staterooms with balconies are a little more expensive on some ships. If you would like further details please feel free to contact one of our tour consultants.
**About the cabin of China Regal: In the past we have received some complaints from our clients who have said that Standard Twin Cabin's beds and living space is a little small. The reason for this is China Regal Cruises wanted to make the entertainment portions of the ship more spacious and comfortable. If you feel this might be a concern for you, we recommend you book the Superior Deluxe Suite instead. We have found that the food and service aboard ship is exceptional, and believe you will have a wonderful experience cruising along the Yangtze River.
If I am traveling on my own, will I be able to get a single room on ship?
Not all cruisers have single rooms available. Please consult with one of our travel consultants before your booking and we will do our best to accommodate you.
If I require an extra bed, can you arrange that on ship?
Due to space constraints the ship's cabins are not as large as a hotel room. Not all ship's cabins are large enough to fit an extra bed. Please consult with one of our tour consultants when you book your tour.
Can the staff on ships speaking English?
Most of the onboard staff can speak English. For all the 4-5 star ships, there is an English-Chinese bilingual broadcasting system. The ship's tour guide can speak English.
Do I need a converter on board?
Most of the cruisers have both 220V and 110V outlets in their cabins. If you need an adaptor, please contact the housekeeping department on board.
What kind of food will be served on board?
Breakfast onboard ship will be a Chinese/Western buffet. Lunch and dinner will be Chinese cuisine featuring a set menu, table service, and free soda and beer.
How about meal arrangement on the Cruise? Can we order special meals or private meals?
Normally, buffet is available for breakfasts and lunch, and table arrangements will be available at dinner time. If you would like to enjoy private meals, or special order meals they will be made available for an additional fee.
Is the water onboard ship safe to drink?
There is water purification and sterilization facilities onboard ship that offer clean tap water, but it is not recommended for drinking. We will provide two bottles of water for each client per day.
Are there laundry services on board?
Yes, laundry services are available on all ships. Normally laundry sent out before 9:00am can be returned the same day. Those sent after 9:00am will be returned to you on the following day.
Are there any medical services on board?
Yes, professional medical services are available on all cruise ships. Doctors on board will offer you medical service and advice on health matters. Medicines for the common cold and the digestive system diseases are available. If you use prescription medications please make sure you bring an ample supply for the duration of your visit to China. These will not be available onboard ship.
Do you have Internet access on board?
Yes. Internet access and phone services are available via Satellite service. The Business Center onboard ship has photocopying, fax machines, personal computers, simultaneous translating, and typing. The prices for these services are quite high however. If possible, we strongly recommend you bring you own mobile phone onboard.
Does the cruise offer international telephone service?
Some 5-star cruises do offer this service, but not all of them.
Is there shopping facilities onboard ship?
There are some shops onboard ships. These shops specialize in daily necessities, and some food. These shops are not large, and will not have everything you might want, so it is recommended that you be well prepared before boarding. There will be many shops at the scenic spots along the Yangtze River. All kinds of traditional arts and crafts will be available. It is expected that you bargain when you go shopping, especially on expensive goods.
Notice:
Once you bargain on the price, and the shopkeeper has agreed, the price is set, and cannot go down any lower you are expected to purchase the item. If you want to go lower, or refuse to buy after agreeing on a price, it is considered rude, and may cause unnecessary arguments. Please keep this in mind when bargaining.
Are there hairdryers available on each Cruise?
Yes, hairdryers will be available in the reception department.
Can we exchange currency during the Cruise?
Yes, 5-star Cruises offer this service. Normally they only accept US$ AND Euros.
