Beijing is an interesting city with a mix of very modern facilities and buildings together with a lot of historical sites that are just a short drive or walk away. The sheer scale and majestic view of the Forbidden City and the Great Wall are a must for any first time visitors. There is even a toboggan ride down from the wall as an alternative to the chair lifts or cable car. Don't be mistaken, even after the ride up to the wall, the walk on the wall is still a big challenge for those who are physically challenged, Besides other sites like the Temple of Heaven and the Summer Palace, we also took a short rickshaw ride through the small alleys (Hudongs) to visit to a traditional household in Beijing. It was a good preview of how multi tier families used to live. Eye-opener for my kids (and us parents) from the modern and westernized cultures.
I must say I had my reservations about taking the internal flight to Xi'an but it turned out to be rather pleasant. Both airports were very modern and well equipped, Xi'an is the place of the famous Terracota warriors build by the first emperor of China. It was an hour ride out from the hotel but a trip that was worth the time. Again, it was an amazing sight seeing the scale of the tomb and wondering how did our ancestors manage such a feat. There was a smaller scale of the "great wall" build around the old city centre centuries ago. Cycling on top of the wall took over an hour but was a good chance to get a quick view of different angles of the city. At night, Xi'an is very colourful literally. The Bell and Drum Towers were lighted up and make fantastic photo stops.
It was was my kids' first time to China and they enjoyed the experience which was greatly enhanced by China Odyssey Tours. The tour coordinator Mr Alex Quan and our personal tour guides Ms Tracy Liu in Beijing and Ms Nancy Song in Xi'an made the trip very smooth and enjoyable. Everything was well coordinated from the moment we landed in Beijing until we left on the last day. The guides were very knowledgeable and the service was top notch. I would strongly recommend Odyssey to anyone visiting China and looking for a guided tour.

We recently booked our tour to Beijing through China Odyssey Tours and could not be more pleased with our experience. Alex Quan, our consultant, arranged an exciting itinerary including the Great Wall, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, and many other attractions. The accommodations he arranged were fantastic. And I cannot say enough good things about our guide Jack Jiang. He was so incredibly knowledgeable and educated us on the history and meaning behind many things. He even took us to local dining establishments and ordered food for us so we could try new things. He was patient with us and our children (ages 8 and 12) and he made the trip even better. We definitely made memories that will not soon be forgotten.

After doing some research, I decided to go with Odyssey tours for my China trip and I'm so glad I did! After a couple months of going back and forth, and deciding at the last minute to take the dive, Alex Quan put together an amazing trip for my family. He was so patient with me through the whole thing and was always so kind and reassuring. We traveled to Beijing, Xi'an, and Shanghai. The accommodations he arranged were great, the guides were fantastic, and the itinerary was full of memory making experiences my family will cherish. Thank you Alex!

I worked with Alex Quan for 6 months and he always answered my questions and uncertainties. when I finally decided to book I was unsure about last-minute bookings and he assured me it could be done. because of him, we had the best vacation of a lifetime. Odyssey recommends hotel but you have the option to change, as I did especially in Shanghai where I wanted to be near the bund and Nanjing Lu. Thank you Alex and my sister will be contacting you for next year. Maybe us again for a different part of china to see!

to see Chengdu one really need at least 3 nights. we only had 2 and one day was spent going to LeShan the big buddha. it was very inspiring and lovely. we enjoyed the Wenshu Teahouse and their vegetarian buffet, the hotpot restaurant just around the corner recommended by our wonderful guide, Jim Xu. he was such a nice young fellow that I wanted to take him home! Jim showed us how to order and cook in the hotpot. He is also fluent in English and knowledgeable as this is where he grew up.I would go back to see other parts of Chengdu.its a lovely city. Thank you Jim!

My husband and I chose this type of tour mainly because we did not want the typical tour food lunches and dinners and the option to say 'NO' shopping stops and of course to experience the specialty cuisine of that area. In Beijing area, John knew which restaurant were outstanding and recommended their specialities such as hand-pull noodles. we learned a wealth of history from him and he is one smart guy. Our guide Judy in Xian very fluent in English and history. a fun home hosted lunch. we chose Chengdu to eat the spicy foods and their famous hotpot, of course see the pandas and a trip to Leshan.hope you get Jim if you go to Chengdu. so considerate and goes the extra mile. our last stop was Shanghai and it was a contrast comparison to Beijing the govt. seat and the laid back style of Chengu. Shanghai was fun too. Our guide Alice did not have the years of experience as the other guides such as making decisions/flexibility as she is younger and not from there but she showed us different parts of shanghai to compare. If you go to Suchou Peter Gao is a professor , born and raised there and you will love his knowledge. thank you Alex for putting a wonderful tour together. Hotel location is key also to be able to get out on your own for free time and dining.

My husband & I have just arrived back from a fabulous 11 day trip to China organised by Odyssey Tours & we would have no hesitation in recommending Odyssey Tours to anyone planning to visit China. Our consultant Alex Quan was prompt and did everything to help us tailor a trip to suit our needs. We visited Beijing, Xian, Guilin, Longi & Yangshou. Our guide, Peter Hu, in Beijing far exceeded our expectations. His knowledge of Chinese history & culture is exceptional & made our tours of Tianamen Square, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Ming Tomb so interesting & informative. Without Peter we would have been mere 'onlookers' Our trip to the Great Wall, Mutianyu section, was a highlight complete with blue sky & few tourists. Peter did everything to ensure we had the best possible experience in Beijing. Ask for him to be your guide in Beijing to ensure an excellent, informative tour. T Our hotel in the Hutongs, The Red Wall Garden was beautiful and authentic. The bullet train to Xian was a great way to travel & see the countryside. Much better than flying. The Terracoota Warriors were the highlight of our time in Xian & our guide Tilla Zou friendly. Next stop Guilin, a scenically spectacular part of China. Jessica Wang, our guide for 5 days was wonderful & we appreciated her knowledge & sense of humour. Ask for her to be your guide, you won't be disappointed. She did everything possible to ensure we had a great time right down to organising a special massage for us after a big day hiking! Walking around the lake at Guilin & watching the local people relaxing, dancing, doing tai chi was great. We really enjoyed our time staying at Longi one Hotel, hiking in the rice terraces in Longi & watching the long hair women show. The Li River cruise was through stunning scenery & Yangshou is a beautiful town. Our 2 nights at the Moondance Hotel very good. We loved all our activities here. Our late afternoon bike ride through the countryside, our cooking class, Tia chi class & the bamboo river raft were all highlights. The Light show on the Li River was wonderful.
