Renee before the majestic Potala Palace
Renee and our guide before the majestic Potala Palace

Dear Louisa,

Thank you for the picture, but you did not say which was you and which was your sister. Where was the photo taken?

I did write a bit of a travelogue, but it is long (12 pages single spaced). It is not smooth...just a lot of thoughts and impressions that would seem disjointed to others.

Regarding photos, we took a lot and I have attached a few. The one of the Great Wall is unusual because there are NO tourists in it. It was a good time of the day to visit and a good location that you chose. The others are included because they were high points, including: the Potala Palace (Renee with our guide), the debating monks at Sera Monastery, a birthday cake from the hotel on July 4 (Renee's birthday), the Reed Flute Cave and Shanghai from the Pearl Tower.

We had a lot of highlights, but I chose these few to illustrate some of the places we'll remember.

I am also attaching a photo of Renee and me taken after we got home during a tour of a new hospital building where I used to work. You saw our passport pictures, but those photos are usually pretty bad. So here is what we look like...really.

Thanks for again everything.

The fabulous Huangshan
To many tourists, no matter domestic and overseas, Huangshan is an irrisitable dreamland.

Hi Maggie,

The trip was very good but tiring, lots of walking and climbing but I enjoy it very much. We didn’t get to see all the peaks.

Will planned for the next visit some time later.

Thanks for organizing the trip.

Hi Bruce,

I must apologise for the delay in sending these to you, but I had so many photos both from Mongolia and China, that it took me a few weeks to edit them.

As promised here are a few photos of the "Monkeys" and April and I having dinner, thank you for the dinner. The visit to Monkey Valley was great, but if you send any tourist there please inform them of the many many steps they have to climb to get to Monkey Temple.

As mentioned in my earlier e-mails, I thoroughly enjoyed the few days. Huang Shan the views were spectacular. My guide and drivers were very obliging and informative.

I would not hesitate to recommend your organisation to anyone who may be planning an independant trip to China.

Again thank-you for high level of service.

Rene at the Sacred Road, Beijing
Rene posed before a huge stone elephant at Beijing's famous Sacred Road, where Chairman Mao once stood as well.

Hi Jack,

Got back from Shanghai last Friday. Had a really great time in China and everyone wants to go back.

Nancy, Tracy and Chao (Michael) were wonderful guides and very flexible with our requirements.

We took the Maglev train to Pudong New District in Shanghai which was an nice experience. Our free days in Beijing were taken full advantage of. We made many discoveries, including some great restaurants (Da Dong is pricey but definitely has a better duck than Quanjude). Fangshan is great despite some poor reviews on the internet, the Tan cuisine at Guo Yao Xiaoju in a hutong and the discovery of a cafe in Liulichang that was visited by Sun Yat Sen and has been in the family of an imperial official for years- Nancy knows about the latter- added interest to the trip, etc., etc.

Thanks for helping with the arrangements. We might not be able to travel in an equally big group in the future because of the college kids' schedules and the fact that August is too hot and humid. Would you be able to help out in the future if this was the case?

Cheers!
Rene

Hi Wanda,

I just want to Thank-you and tell you how wonderful everything went and how happy I was with China Odyssey Tours.

The guides were prompt, knowledgeable and extra attentive. The girls seem to be more nurturing, but the men were 5+ also. Almost everything went off without a hitch. I wish it wasn't so hot, hot, hot, but that wasn't your fault!

Most of the hotels were great, especially the Peninsula, Sofitel and Mandarin. The only hotel I would not use again is the Gauford? (Liljiang) This hotel seemed liked a has-been. Not awful, but could use improvements.

All in all, everything was fantastic and I really enjoyed all aspects of the trip. It is amazing how far and modern China has become in the last ten years. I know there is a comment form somewhere and eventually I will fill it out. I just wanted you to know that the trip excelled my expectations.

Please use me as a reference. It will be glowing. Also, several of my friends are interested in the future. I passed along a lot of information, including your name, so I hope some contact you.

Again, thanks for super job!

A Chinese pavilion of the Grand Mosque in Xian
A Chinese pavilion of the Grand Mosque in Xian

Hi Jack,

I am sending you 2 emails: 1 with comments and 1 with a couple of pictures and comments that you are welcome to use on your website. We, too, were sorry that we could not meet you while in Guilin. And, actually, Guilin was our favorite stop! Not only did we enjoy the area but also our guide (Sophie) was wonderful.

We enjoyed our entire trip and especially want to compliment the guides. Without them, we would not have been able to comprehend so much of China's history and culture. Our guide in Xian (Andrea) even taught us a bit of Chinese!! Having our guides speak English with us was so appreciated by both Dave and myself.

The only improvement we care to mention is the schedule we had in Shanghai. Our guide (Jimmy) was very good, however, he did move 2 scheduled events from the day we were leaving to the only day we had to tour in Shanghai. This made for a very long day and we do not feel that we absorbed or appreciated Shanghai as much as we could. With that said, we enjoyed the Chinese acrobatic Show plus seeing the city.

The Yangtze River was most impressive and we also enjoyed Beijing (again, our guide, Sally, was great). Thank you for putting together an excellent trip that was memorable and and thrilled that we were able to travel to China.

Sincerely,
Katie Olsen

Hi Karen,

I wanted to send you a note to thank you so much for all of the work you put into planning our trip. We returned to America from China this past week and are still so excited about everything that we saw and everything that we did.

The sites were beautiful, the guides were knowledgeable, the itinerary was comprehensive, the culture was remarkable, the food was delicious…I can go on and on.

We had the trip of a lifetime and we truly appreciate your flexibility and support. Please take care and best of luck in the future!

Dear Louisa,

We (Renilde, Glenn, Denis, Dimitry, Justine, Kato, Marleen, Guy, Johan, Annelies and myself) want to thank you for making our first China holiday a Big Big success.

Not only the preparation went well, the sightseeings were fascinating, we made a lot of fun, the hotels superb and our national guide.....exactly as we wanted it to be.

From the beginning, you really managed to give us a welcome feeling. Your presence in our group has certainly helped us feeling at home.

It is as you mentioned the last day, your English was perhaps not the best, although certainly good enough for us, but we all felt very clearly your commitment to make this holiday enjoyable for everyone and that's what you did.

Congratulations for this, it is a level of customer service rarely seen in most Western countries.

Having said this, this holiday has been an eye opener for all us and clearly gave us a very positive view on China.

Thanks a lot for all this and I trust we will stay in touch.

Sharon Lee hiking at the Mutianyu Great Wall

Century Star, the comfortable Yangtze Cruise vessel we took

Hi Yoko,

It's so nice to hear from you!

We had a very comfortable one-night stay in Marriot Chongqing hotel. We really enjoyed the cruise and we are so glad we chose Century Star that you recommended, the room was very clean, service was excellent, and food was very good as well. The crew were also very warm and friendly.

We were very pleasantly surprised that even the porter fees to carry our luggages up the cruise were included. The tour guides were all very professional.

The only thing is that our luggages were scratched and dirtied by the porter who carried our luggages from cruise up to Yichang. If we have known that earlier, we would have chosen to carry our luggages instead. So maybe next time, the tour guide should warn the tourists first, and let the tourist decide whether to use the porter service then.

Overall, we were very happy and glad to have engaged China Odyssey Tours, we really had an enjoyable trip.

Thanks for helping us plan and ensure such a smooth and enjoyable trip.

We would definitely recommend China Odyssey go our friends and relatives.

Have a greet weekend Yoko!

Cheers!

Dear Louisa,

In case you did not see my earlier e-mail (you were on a business trip when I sent it), it was to thank you for the work you did in making our recent trip to China/Tibet work so smoothly.

All connections were made exactly as promised. We had several domestic flights within China and each one went without a problem. The accommodations were excellent and the places chosen for lunches were quite good. Guides and drivers were accommodating and personable.

So, thanks for all your efforts. As I said in my other message, feel free to use our names as references should other Americans contact you and ask for the e-mail address of persons who have toured China through your company.

Dear Maggie,

I hope you are well. It was a pleasure to meet you. I am sorry this is later, but I have been doing a lot of traveling and have not had time before now.

All the other guides were great. I also appreciated the suggestion by all the guides. They were very knowledgeable. The two river cruises we took, Yangtze Cruise and Li River Cruise, were also wonderful. Each one gave us a chance to relax after all the running around. Our guide in Guilin , Susan, suggested that we go see the Minorities Dance Show, all called Liu Sanjie Night Show, and it was marvelous. I enjoyed it and think that other people would too.

Thanks and best regards,

Hong Kong Disneyland, a pleasant land with bewitching fairy tales.

Dear Leo,

This email is a little late, but I wanted to write and let you know that my wife and I had a great time on the personal tour that you put together for us.

All the guides and drivers from China Odyssey did a brilliant and professional job on the various places and sights that we visited. All of them made us extremely welcome and we learnt a lot and it made our vacation very special. My wife and I will have many memories of all the amazing places that we visited on the tour for many years to come. The whole thing from arriving in Beijing to leaving Hong Kong went very smoothly indeed.

The trip was fantastically executed and if we visit China again we would definitely plan our trip with you. We have no hesitation to recommend you to our friends or colleagues should they fancy the chance to visit your wonderful country.

We would like to thank Jessica, David, Karen, Chris and Lyon our wonderful guides. And a big thank you to you for being our contact to arrange this trip.

Thanks again Leo.

Dear Sophie,

We arrived back in Australia on Saturday morning, after our very successful 2 week holiday in China. Thank you for all your marvellous organisation.

The guides, drivers, hotels were very good and all the arrangements went so smoothly. We were looked after very well, and I especially appreciated the fact that the guides notified restaurants about the MSG in advance because I had one or two problems with the MSG. We are recommending your company to our friends who are thinking of travelling to China.

Many thanks from two very appreciative customers!

Hi Leo,

We got back from our holiday in China last week - and are already back at work and it is the middle of winter - so is very cold and rainy with snow on the mountains - and we want to go back to China and to summer!!

Thank you for organizing a lovely holiday for us - we had a wonderful time and your organization made it very easy for us, thank you.

Please could you do me one last favour - we can get airline awards from our China air and the other flights we did within China because they are in the same alliance as our South African airways, but we need the e-tickets. Please could you send me copies of our e-tickets of all the flights you organized for us?

Many thanks.

My family and me want to tell special thanks to your company's guides.

Hi Jack,

Thanks so much again for all of your help. Sorry about the phone call the other night because the guy at the Chun Shen Jiang hotel didn't believe me that you were my travel agent.
It was great to meet you in Guilin. That was a fantastic tour. I'm so glad I finally went. I've wanted to visit Guilin for years. It's so beautiful.

I'm in Nanjing now. I will write more soon about the trip. I just wanted to forward you an email from my sister Elli.
Jack seems like a stand up guy. Sounds amazing! (Quote from the e-mail.)

Well, I hope you have a great weekend and thanks again for being so kind and helpful to me.

Hello Sophie,

Everything was great. The hotel breakfasts were fantastic. The hotels were good. The Soluxe Courtyard Hotel was the highlight of our Beijing trip. It is an ideal place for student group tour or anyone who is interested in living in history to stay in Beijing.

The tour guides and the bus drivers were awesome. They were knowledgeable and well-trained professionals. The bus drivers were unbelievable, the best of the best. The tour operator was very flexible and experienced.

You are he was prompt, flexible, and resourceful and the tour arrangement was great especially the communication involving emergency situation.

China Odyssey Tours is a very well-organized tour company in which you can trust when traveling in China and tops our travel list if we wanna a revisit to China.

Dear Sophie,

We did enjoy our trip to Chengdu. After our journey to Chengdu and to the other places covered by our booked tour we did spend some more days in Shanghai (EXPO etc.)

Our guide did contribute very much to the nice and interesting days. Always on time, very good information regarding the individual monuments and very friendly. Our driver very good and comfortable safe driving. Tianfu Sunshine Hotel very good and clean, very good breakfast. Grand Hotel in Emeishan good in very nice location.

We have some suggestions which may be helpful:
- for guests of Grand Hotel, you could remind them to take swimsuits with them (nice hot springs)
- for elderly people, the full tour Mt.Emei could be a bit exhausting.

Planning and information from you Sophie before we startet the tour was outstanding good. Confirmation letter with tour itinery very helpful (all telephone numbers etc.-although we did not need them).

Thank you!

Hello Louisa,

We came straight home from guillin.Despite the weather, we had a good time in China although it was our second time in guillin.

The contrast in weather on the Li River and at Longsheng to our previous trip showed us two sides of the places. For Robin, it was hard to be a guide for a second time, but he tried to make it as easy as possible. He did very well.

Lesley and I would like to thankyou for your organization, which was perfect. We will contact you in about a week to see if we can send a photo or two when we settle down.

Josh and Karen attending the Welcome Party on their ship during the Yangtze Cruise

Dear Sophie,

We are back home in America now after a very successful trip, including of course the Yangtze Cruise. It was made possible in large measure due to your excellent services. I travel a lot, and you were one of the best tour coordinators I have experienced. It is amazing that all arrangements could be done over the internet without a hitch. I only wish that I could have met you in person to express my thanks. You were on top of all issues and very accessible through both your e-mail and cell.

All tour arrangements were excellent, and I was particularly impressed with how you handled the flight change in Yichang and getting me to Wuhan due to heavy rains. Your choice of Century Star for our cruise was perfect, as my wife and I liked the side-trips, food and boat staff.

I would be pleased to recommend China Odyssey to anyone and would use your company again myself.

Please feel free to share this feedback with anyone interested.

Wishing you all the best in the future. I hope our paths will cross again.

Sincerely,

Fascinating Chongqing night view, shot from our Yangzte cruise

Dear Reinself,

Just few words to you after completion of our successful trip in China. We are back to Bangkok after a very interesting and well organized trip to wonderful locations in China.

Local Guides were all very kind and interesting and flexible enough through quite busy journeys perfectly on schedule. All hotel accomodation was OK as well as the cruise. The Pullman Hotel in Guangzhou was perfect.

The only weakness we have perceived is flight connectivity on our way back to Bangkok, which is unexpeceted, not your fault.

In summary, Well Done from your side. We will send you the questionnaire in the coming days.

The high ancient Pingyao City Wall

Hello Reinself,

I'm sorry just to write now but in my return to work I found so many tasks to be performed that I have no time to write to you.

First of all, we want to thank you for the very nice and very well organized trip in China. As we referred in our comments, it exceeds our expectations and we intend to go back to China in a nearer future. The idea about China is based on we read in books, Internet and the reality is much better.

Our guides were exceptional as well our private drivers. Their concern is to find the best way to show everything, to provide us with enough information without to bore us. The hotels are well located, very closed to the main places. For us, it was the best choice as we prefer to be installed not outside the main places neither in the middle of these places, to avoid so many confusion and movement.

We already recommend your company to our friends.

When we intend to perform a new visit, can we contact you, directly?

We are preparing some photos to send to you. It's a hard job as we get about 2950 photos!

Best regards,

Night view of Drum Tower in Xian

Sophie,

Thank you for thinking of us. It has been rather hectic with business catching up since we returned and also trying to un-jetlag at the same time.

We had a really lovely time in China!

Truly all of your guide selections were most pleasant and extremely informative! We were very impressed that every city was beautifully landscaped along every street and highway! The city lights were impeccably beautiful, a real treat ! Since we are in the design/architectural business, we found both ancient and new, the architecture exquisite! Jim and Lynda Matteson were the most perfect hosts, taking such great care of us when not in their presence! They took digital photos in Xi'an with us. We only had 'slide film', not on digital. So perhaps you can ask them for a couple of tour referenced photos!

We cannot say enough about your efforts on our behalf and will refer you at any time when we know someone is planning such a trip!

Best regards and thank you again!

Carole with a panda in the Wolong National Nature Reserve in Chengdu

Hi Sophie,

Our trip was great.

The guides you provided in Guilin and Chengdu were outstanding. Very knowledgeable, excellent English, and fun to be with. Both were flexible with our needs and requests. Guilin and the Li River Cruise were well worth visiting. The panda breeding facility was everything I had hoped. It made the trip for me!! Our guide in Chengdu was more that we had hoped. She helped make the trip there outstanding. I am attaching a picture of me with Lin Lin, a lesser panda, and one with our guide. Also a picture of Guilin at night and Hans with our guide on Li River. If you have trouble with the pictures, let me know and I will reduce the size and email again.

Thanks for all your help and support. You have been wonderful and so responsive. Even emailing while you were on your holiday to reassure us!! COT has a real jewel in you and I hope they know this.

We would be happy to recommend COT anytime. I am posting to TripAdvisor about our great experience with COT. Hope it helps your company business!!

The gorgeous Imprssion Liu Sanjie Night Show in Yangshuo, Guilin

Dear Karen,

I thank you very much for your service regarding my wife Maria Sabin. I kindly ask you to receive my regrets for my missing trust in your company.

More, I am interested to propose you a future business cooperation if you are interested regarding Romanian and other European tourists to China by your company. A joint venture or an agency agreement should be interesting for us. I think China as the actual main important economic power and a lot of people should have the curiosity to see a part of great China. Either for future business either for pleasure.

You were very kind and very correct, even I was not so polite sometime with my doubts... There is only some differences between your guides. Absolutely special is the Guilin guide , according to my wife. But they were all very nice.

We are definitely recommending you to our friends and collegues at work. We are looking forward to visiting China again sometime! Apologies for replying so late, I am rather busy at work recently.

The magnificent Great Wall, one of the Seven Wonders of the World

Good Morning, Sophie,

We are glad to be back home, but what an experience we had in China.

We were amazed how clean each and every city we visited was and how hard everyone worked. The sights we saw were truly amazing. The Terracotta Soldiers, the big Three Gorges Dam and the magnificent Great Wall was every bit as awesome as we expected.

Every one of our guides and drivers were great. Glad we had such good drivers!!!! The guides were generally fluent with thier English language. We were however surprised at how many steps we had to climb. If we had only known, maybe we would have gotten ourselves in better shape. The public bathrooms were also a surprise to us, but did not take us long to figure out how to use them. Each hotel was very clean and accommadating to us.

I can not thank your company for being so helpful and gracious to us in setting up our tour. It was the experience of a lifetime and one we will not forget soon.

We have not developed our pictures yet but will e-mail the one from your office as soon as Jim goes throught the pictures.

Again we thank you for the gifts you and some of our guides gave us. They were very much appreciated and will find a place to be displayed in our homes.
