Beijing Escorted Soft Adventure Tour with Great Wall
Highlights: This is a truly unique tour designed for seasoned, fit walkers who hanker for a memorable trekking holiday with a difference. You will encounter the Great Wall of China in the rugged mountains to the north west of Beijing - hiking sections of the wall rarely visited by anyone, let alone westerners. Combined with a bit of comfort for the overnight stops and visits to some of Beijing's key attractions as well - a great short holiday experience!
Day-by-day Tour Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive Beijing
Accommodations: Days Inn Forbidden City
Transfer via: International Flight on your own arrangement
Be met on arrival and transferred to our overnight accommodation at the Days Inn Forbidden City which is very central located, just beside the Tian'anmen Square.
Day 2 Beijing
Accommodations: Days Inn Forbidden City
Meals: B,L,D
Sightseeing: Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Hutongs
Special Dinner: Han Can
Today you will visit the famous sights of Beijing include Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, including the Clock Museum, Treasure Hall, the Gate of Heavenly Peace, and the Temple of Heaven. In the afternoon, we'd like a rickshaw tour through the Hutongs, and possibly lunch with an authentic local family. In the afternoon, tour the Hutongs, Beijing's ancient, narrow streets, dinner at Han Can by the famous Lotus Lane.
Day 3 Beijing/Jinshanling/Simatai
Accommodations: Simatai Guesthouse

Sightseeing: Jinshanling Great Wall, Simatai Great Wall
After breakfast, we coach to the Jin Shan Ling section of the Great Wall, arriving in time for lunch. We begin trekking for the first time along a dirt track for around 40 minutes until the Wall comes into view. It's then a 30 minute climb up to the Wall itself. The mountain is quite steep and stony and we trek for around 4km along the ruins of the wall - some sections have only one side of the Wall remaining. The highest point is about 700 meters above sea level and the views and scenery are incredible. After around 5-6 hours hiking, we will arrive at our destination for today - The very rugged and beautiful Simatai Section of the Wall. Overnight at the traditional Chinese style Simatai Guesthouse next to a small reservoir.
Day 4 Simatai/Huangyaguan

Sightseeing: Huangyaguan Great Wall
The Great Wall at Simatai dates from the Ming Dynasty and boasts some 135 watchtowers. Today's trek is a real challenge with very steep sections and some sheer drops. This morning we trek on the wall itself and climb more than 1000 steps. We will have lunch at a watchtower and then leave the wall to trek down to a valley. Afterwards we head back to the Simatai Guesthouse by a different route for lunch and a short rest. Later, we will head to Huang Ya Guan Great Wall by coach. We will stay the next two nights at the Huang Ya Guesthouse which is in the traditional Chinese courtyard style in a beautiful mountainous setting with the wall towering on either side.
Day 5 Huangyaguan

Sightseeing: Taipingzhai Great Wall
From the guesthouse, we will trek through the nearby village and follow an uphill road through the countryside. The wall here follows a narrow mountain ridge that gives spectacular views over the surrounding area - the scenery here is reminiscent of classical Chinese landscape paintings. Once we arrive at the Taipingzhai section of the wall, we will be taken back the guesthouse for lunch. Afternoon is at leisure at the guesthouse or you can explore the Street of Eight Diagram, an architectural wonder of the Ming Dynasty lying just below the pass.
Day 6 Huangyaguan/Zun Hua

Sightseeing: East Qing Dynasty Tombs, Shangguanhu Great Wall
Hiking east for about 1 - 2 hours, we stop to visit the East Qing Dynasty Tombs. After taking a boat trip to Shang Guan Hu Great Wall, we will hike through a stony valley before ascending to the unreconstructed wall which twists and winds its way along the mountains, interspersed with crumbling ruined watchtowers. Overnight at Zun Hua International Hotel.
Day 7 Zun Hua/Beijing

Sightseeing: Summer Palace
Special Dinner: Peking Duck Dinner
This morning is spent on a coach ride back to Beijing, followed by an afternoon visit to the splendid Summer Palace set amongst sweeping lakeside gardens. This evening, we will have a special farewell banquet featuring the famous Peking Duck Dinner. After dinner together, there will be an optional visit to a specialist foot massage parlor to ease those aching limbs.
Day 8 Beijing/Departure
Meals: B
A free morning before transferring to the airport for flights to your next destination.
