Details of tour Itinerary we took

My wife and I (28yrs & 30yrs) have recently returned from a wonderful two week trip of China. After a number of beach holidays, we were looking for something a little different. Our personalised itinerary took us to Shanghai, Guilin, a 3 day Yangtze cruise, Beijing, Xian and back to Shanghai.

We will keep lifelong memories of the people, sights, sounds and flavors we experienced in China, each destination so different from the next. I won't go into each location itself, I’ll leave that up to you to discover (although I would recommend our itinerary with a longer stay in Guilin) but no matter where we went, the service we received was first class. Most people had paid inflated sums to their domestic tour operators to follow a flag waving guide en mass for two weeks. At every airport we arrived at(and I must say I was impressed with the Chinese airlines)we were greeted by our personal guide and driver who would stay with us for the duration of the tour in that city. All guides spoke impeccable English and had a vast knowledge of the local sites, history and cultures. The private people carrier cars that were used were very comfortable and I still feel guilty for the smug feeling I had every time I saw the mass groups struggling back onto their big bus! If you’re lucky enough to have Libby as your guide in Guilin – give her a hug from us!

After the usual hunt through brochures and the internet we fortunately found China Odyssey Tours.Karen, our appointed travel consultant assisted us for weeks whilst we toyed with where to visit, choice of hotel etc, and always responded quickly and with a charm that eludes western tour operators. I must say that we could not have asked for more. On our arrival and departure, Karen called to welcome us and wish us farewell and we also had the great pleasure of meeting Karen whilst in Guilin – we really felt that we had a friend in China.I don’t believe that this is a service that you would expect from the usual high street travel agents!!

I should add that many people seem to worry about what the food will be like and I must say that it was great. The food we had as part of our tour and the restaurants we visited independently were excellent and you can eat western or eastern, adventurous or conservative as you wish.
