in Guilin, Yangshuo, and Longji?

Guilin, Yangshuo, and Longji are all very attractive destinations but unique to each other. It is absolutely worth your time and money to stay more than one day in each of these three places.

In Guilin
Guilin city is situated among numerous Karst limestone peaks. More than just a gateway to the surrounding scenic areas, the city itself is like a huge nature park. There are many unique-shaped limestone hills and peaks spread the downtown area giving Guilin city a skyline unseen in any city in the rest of the world.

The two most dramatic hills among them are the Elephant Trunk Hill outlined like live elephant, and the Camel Hill in a shape of a giant camel. Solitary Beauty Peak, Fubo Hill, and Reed-flute Cave are also must visit sites.
When night falls, it is the time to relax in the bars on the Pedestrian Street, or stroll to the Night Market along the Zhongshan Road. But the best way to conclude your one day Guilin city tour is to take a Two-River-Four-Lake night cruise. It is a natural water loop formed by four lakes and two rivers that enclose the downtown Guilin passing the most beautiful spectacles of the city. Guilin is where you would always wish to have just one more day to stay with.

In Yangshuo
Yangshuo is a scenic county of Guilin, situated on a small plain bordered the Li River on one side and surrounded by a coutless verdant limestone hills. Every visitor to Yangshuo will hear an old saying "Guilin is the most scenic place under heaven, but Yangshuo tops Guilin". It is a small town with big options.

There are a lot of attractive places to go, and so many fun things to do. One day tour is far from enough.
Tourists normally go to Yangshuo by cruising boats through the Li River. The Li River cruise takes 4 hours passing approximately 80 kilometer water route. The Karst hills, bamboo groves, and rice paddies lining the two sides of the Li River, well-known in China as the "one hundred miles of nature art gallery". It is the highlight of entire Guilin tour, but just the beginning of your Yangshuo immersion.

Once you arrive at Yangshuo, you will be immediately impressed by not only the glamorous landscape, but also the unique cultural mixture of east and west in this cozy little town. It is a fairyland for both relaxation and adventure. You could enjoy an idyllic getaway by going for an antient town and village tour.

If you love to get back to the nature, cycling around the picturesque countryside and Karst hills, hiking or kayaking along a beautiful and peaceful tributary of the Li River - the Meeting Dragon River - will be excellent options. If you are looking for some excitements or adventurous experiences, Yangshuo can also get you there. Hot-air ballooning, rock climbing, and traverse and abseil are available for you.

Rock climbers fall in lover with Yangshuo's limestone rocks and peaks, and every year come across the world to Yangshuo to find their new challenges. Good news is you do not have to be an expert to do rock climbing and abseiling as the entry level is from the beginners to the professionals. Just give it a go, you will be proud of the decision you made.

One day tour in Yangshuo? Say "no way". Stay as many days as you can (3 days is recommended) because there are still more things to do out there. The night life in Yangshuo is no less jumping than in big cities. The West Street is world-famous for its unique cultural ambience. The western café and bars and traditional Chinese shops and tea houses are all in one street, where you will see people of all colors get on happily.

Do not forget the Impression of Shanjie Liu, an outstanding culture performance directed by Yimou Zhang who is the Director of Beijing 2008 Olympics Opening ceremony. This large-scaled show, with 600 plus actors and actress involved, is literally performed on a nature stage where the Li River is the stage, and the Karst landscape is the backdrop. The 70-minute show combines the classical Sanjie Liu's folk songs and exotic fishing culture together，reflecting the harmony between human beings and the nature. Performance of this kind is rare to be found elsewhere.

In Longsheng Terraced Fields
Longji consists of many minority villages, and is most famous for Longji (Dragon's Backbone) Terraced Rice Fields. It takes approximately 2 hours drive form Guilin city, or 3 and half hours drive from Yangshuo to Longji, where is the home to many ethnic minority groups including Yao, Miao, Dong, and Zhuang people.

The recommended length of Longji tour is one full day mainly due to less accommodation availability and comfortableness. However if you are tough and willing to get authentic experience in guesthouses or home-stays run by local ethnic people, spending extra days will give you opportunities to go an extra mile to visit a place called Jinkeng (translates Golden Pit) for more magnificent terraced fields and more extraordinary spectacles.
