The 42-day festival is a real festival for locals, but a great winter gala for home visitors and overseas tourists to enjoy the special art, culture, sightseeing, sport events created on snow and ice. What makes the festival more joyful is that it covers other three important Chinese festivals, namely the New Year Festival, the Spring Festival and the Lantern Festival. Traditional celebrative activities have been prepared and arranged during the snow and ice festival.

Themed on "Ice & Snow Fun and City Passion", this year's snow and ice festival is characterized with four sub-theme highlights.

To make Harbin a city of snow and ice wonders, the municipal government erects hundreds of snow sculptures all over the city and dresses main streets, buildings and the riversides of Songhua River with neon lights and other decorative lighting. Once visitors wander inside the city, they will feel like traveling in a real fairyland of colors and snow & ice artifacts.
