Museum of Chin Shi Huang's Buried Terra-cotta Legion

It is made up of some big pits buried with the Mausoleum of Chin Shi Huang (the first emperor of Chin Dynasty), which lies in about 1.5km east of the mausoleum. Found in 1974, and is one of the most important archaeological discoveries in the present age and hailed as the eighth wonder of the world.

There are four pits in the museum: The Pit No. 1 was found by a farmer when he was digging the well, and the Pit No.2, Pit No.3 and Pit No.4 were found and disinterred in the successional years. Amongst the pits, the Pit No. 1 is the biggest. It is with a surface of approx. 14260sqm. There were more than 700 terra-cotta warriors, over 100 chariots and 400 terra-cotta horses, and had the enginery number in excess of 100,000 were exhumed from the Pit No.1 to the Pit No 3(the Pit No.4 found nothing besides the earth).

The terra-cotta warriors can be ranked as the generals, soldiers and charioteers according to their garbs, expressions and hairstyles, they range from 175cm to 185cm in statures. Further, there were many bronze arms such as swords, lances, halberds, scimitars were excavated. Though covered by earth for more than 2,000 years, they look ashimmer and their blades are still very sharp. This is really a mighty work in the history of the world metallurgy.

The scale and the scene of the Chin Shi Huang's Buried Terra-cotta Legion are very grande and martial. They are without parallel in the greatest artistic merit of the world.

In 1987, this miraculous archeological discovery was listed by the UNESCO as one of the world cultural legacies. But the present-showed terra-cotta warriors and horses mostly are from the Pit No.1, amongst more than 4,000 are reburied because of the limited protection technique. Undoubtedly, this place is recommendable to explore Chinese history.

Take a Xian tour and to see the terra-cotta warriors!
