Xi'an is centrally placed in China. As a transport junction connecting the east and west, it possesses a vast modern and three-dimensional communication network consisting of flights, railroads and highways.

By air

Currently, Xi'an has flights to and from more than 60 cities in China and other countries. In Xi'an, the city air port is Xianyang International Airport. Approximately 50km from the city center, the journey takes about an hour from there if you take the through bus to airport. They start from and end at the civil aviation booking office located in Xishaomen, the fare is RMB30yuan per head. And hailing a cab from the city centre to the airport, you may cost approximately 100yuan.

By train

Xi'an train station is situated in the north of the town. This is a major stop for trains heading either west or east and the line actually splits here. Some trains head north to Beijing and others east to Shanghai

There are direct trains from Xi'an to Beijing (16 hours), Shanghai, Guangzhou (27 hours), Chengdu (17 hours), Hefei, Qingdao and Urumuqi. There is a foreigners ticket office on the second level of the train station which is open from 8.30 -11.30 and 2.30 -5.30. Make sure you bring your passport with you as you need this document to register. You can also buy hard seats at an office on Lianhua Road and most of the major hotels will book train tickets for you, although they will charge for this service. If you plan to entrain, it will take you about 30 minutes from the city centre to the train station, and 10yuan is necessary if you take a cab.

By bus

Xi'an is a highway traffic junction second only to Beijing. There are nine national highways radially access to the other cities in the country. The bus stations below are some important stations for you among the eight in Xi'an.

i)Xi'an, Shananxi province Bus Station: Opposite Xi'an Train Station in the northeast of the city, there are buses from here to Mt. Hua (12 hours), the other cities in Shaanxi Province and the provinces nearby.

ii)Passenger Station of West of Xi'an: Located at No.17 Mid-Changle Road, there are regular buses to the south Shananxi province and the east line of Xi'an reaching some counties such as Lintong County.

iii) Xi'an City Bus Station: At No.19 Fengqing Road. Termly, there are buses to Baoji, Zhouzhi and Louguan and many other cities and counties.

City Transport :Buses

Commonly, the buses in urban district of Xi'an is 1yuan, and if you take the dedicated sight seeing buses passing the main scenic spots you must prepare for 2yuan{these scenic spots including: Beixinjie(North New Street), Revolution Park, Bell Tower, Drum Tower, Guangji Street, Zhuque Gate(Rose Finch Gate), Small Wild Goose Pagoda, Nanshao Gate, Daxingshan Temple, Shaanxi History Museum, Big Wild Goose Pagoda, The Palace of Qin;The suburban buses are 1yuan each within 10km (including 10km), and 0.5yuan is added with 5km increasing. The air conditioning buses are 2yuan each (covered through by a single).

There are many taxies are available in Xi'an City, to hail a taxi is not difficult at all. Usually, the hackies of this city are very cordial you need not worry about cheating. The flag-fall price in downtown, which covers the first 2km of a trip is 6yuan (7yuan at night), and on the base of the first 2km the passengers must pay 1.5yuan with 1km increasing.
