Shanghai Currency & Banking Services
In Shanghai, the banking services are highly advanced so visitors should have no problem exchanging money. It is highly recommended that visitors to China use the Chinese Yuan (RMB) wherever they go to avoid any unnecessary problems.
ATM Services:
- There are a large number of ATM machines located throughout the city, and most major ATM cards can be used in them.
- A branch of Citibank next door on the Bund is open 24 hours for ATM withdrawal.
- ATMs at various branches of the Bank of China, the industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) and the China Construction Bank accept most major cards.
Shanghai Currency Exchange:
- Visitors can exchange any amount of money at the Pudong Development Bank, the Pudong Airport, or at any of the Bank of China locations.
- Almost every hotel has money-changing counters.
Credit Cards: Accept or Not?
- Credit cards are more readily accepted in Shanghai than other parts of China.
- Most tourist hotels will accept major credit cards such as Visa, American Express, and MasterCard.
