Most are Chinese dishes, and some are modified to fit westerners' taste. A complimentary glass of beer or soft drink is served with lunch.

Shanghai Local Snack: Paiguniangao. It is so popular in Shanghai that almost everyone of Shanghai like to have in everyday life. Niangao (the New Yeat Cake) is made of glutinous rice or millet flour and garnished with various auxiliary materials such as bean or jujube paste, assorted fruits, assorted preserves and so on. The cake is divided into two categories, the yellow one and the white one, representing respectively gold and silver. It used to be the belief that to eat niangao at New Year would bring good luck.New Year cakes may be cooked by steaming or frying and are be served with the cutlets.

Lijiang Roast Beef, Lijiang ancient town. (The beef is from the yak, very fresh and dilicious!))

Guilin Mifen (Rice Noodle from the southern Chinese province).You can eat the Dried Rice Noodle with Simmered beef, DELICIOUS! The beef are tender and very flavored (especially the tendon parts). the long beans are pickled, peanuts fried and sweet glazed. The sauce is spiced + vinegar + soysauce with tons of garlic.

The famous Beef Hot Pot in Guilin.The local food of Guilin has strong taste and the color is bright. Stewing and steaming are the common ways of cooking and hot peper is widely used. Chinese have a similar style of cooking called "gan guo"or hotpot that uses oil instead of soup etc.

Pijiuyu ( steamed fish with beer)in Yangshuo. Wild Fishes are often found in Guilin dishes. The most famous dishes include Steamed Mandarin Fish from Lijiang River. Even the local people in Guilin prefer to have a dinner with this dishes at the local restaurants in the west street of Yangshuo.

The folk dishes of Guilin are prepared in special ways that carry strong local flavor. The famous local snack, Ganguoyu ( Fish Hot Pot) in Yangshuo is pliable but strong, frangrant and mellow.
