Meals

Normally China Odyssey Tours provides two meals each day: Breakfast and Lunch. You will have the freedom to make your own dinner choice.

Breakfast

It is normally served at the hotel where you stay. Depending on the hotel, the breakfast would be in western style, Chinese style, or a combination.

A la carte lunch

When plan your lunches, we consider the balance of food quality, dining environment and tour convenience. We provide a la carte lunch in a local restaurant whenever possible. A la carte meal will give you an opportunity to eat at local restaurant, follow local customs, and taste local dishes. The a la carte allowance would be adequate for a decent meal in our recommended local restaurants, but varies from different restaurants and different cities. However in some remote regions where it’s simply hard to find a non-tourist restaurant, the meal could be arranged at a local tourist restaurant or a local family.

Your own dinner choice

Dinners will not be included in your meal plan unless you have that requirement. Enjoying the local food could be one of your best experiences in China. This is why we provide you this flexibility of food choice. Your private guide will always give you good suggestions based on your preferences.

If you have certain food allergies or special requirements such as vegetarian food, let us know. We will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Private Guide & Transfer

You will have a private tour guide, private driver, and an air-conditioned vehicle escorting you at every destination you travel. This will provide you with maximized personal care, security, and flexibility.

All of our tour guides are qualified professionals and registered English Speaking Tourist Guides in China who are reassessed annually. All of our tour vehicles are clean and in excellent condition, manned with licensed safe drivers.

Private Tour Guide

You will always be greeted punctually on arrival at each destination airport. At every departure, your guide will stay at your side until you have checked in and passed through the security checkpoint.

All of our travel guides in every destination are locals, who know the area well, they are very good at guiding you around and telling background stories of the tour sites, as well as showing you the secret spots for taking your best photos.

When changing your itinerary is needed due to unexpected reasons, your private tour guides will be more than accommodating in suggesting alternatives to ensure that you have a wonderful experience.

Private Transportation

Depending on how many are traveling together, we generally use sedans or mini vans (7 seats) for 4 people or less, large vans or small coaches (12-22 seats) for 5-12 people, medium coaches (33 – 37 seats) for 13 – 25 people, and large coaches (45 seats over) for more than 25 people.

Thank you to Odyssey tours and Portia for a fun time in Shanghai! We felt at home in this modern, multicultural harbour city just like Sydney! A part from lots of shopping, walking along the bund and enjoying the buskers, night life and great food, we loved learning about the relatively modern history of Shanghai and it's place in China as a financial and technological leader of China.

Utilized China Odyssey Tours to provide guide services and transportation on a trip that included Shanghai and Nanjing. Services included tour guides in boith cities, transportation to/from airport and high speed rail to/from Nanjing. Worked with Wendy from the China Odyssey Tours office on making all the arrangements. Wendy did a great job arranging all the details as well as communicating/confirmation arrangements with me. I don't speak Chinese and found her English communication via email to be clear and on point.

The tour guides for Shanghai (Avril) and Nanjing (Jimmy) were both great. Both spoke English well and provided a good blend of history, context and local perspective to all the attractions we saw. I provided Wendy with some selected attractions we thought appropriate to see in Shanghai and she buit upon our suggestions nicely. For Nanjing, we really had no idea what to see as the main purpose was simply to see the town in which my father was born. The selected attractions were terrific. Both guides provided us suggestions on places to eat and we were pleased with the recommendations.

My daughter and I were surprised at the door-door services our guides provided to us in terms of transportation. We took a train to Nanjing and our guide escorted us into the train station, made sure we cleared security and got us situated exactly where we needed to go for boarding. On our flight home, our guide took similar care of us in terms of getting us into the airport and situated.

Overall, I'd rate the quality of services to be very high. If there was any opportunity for improvement, and this is truly small, it would be two things. First, the vehicle used for our transportation in Shanghai was a minivan that was a bit tired. The vehicle was clean and nicely kept, but a little old and worn. The vehicle for our Nanjing leg was an Audi A6 which was very comfortable and a great vehicle. I would add that the drivers in both cities were excellent. Felt very safe in their hands. Second, while the communication with Wendy was also very good, it could have been enhanced just a bit by consolidating/summarizing information into one email. I was using my mobile phone and our emails back and forth could have been summarized to make for easier access. Again, these are very small and somewhat picky items. I would certainly heartily recommend China Odyssey Tours and would use them again without hesitation.

My younger brother and I decided to visit China for 10 days. I came across several Tour Companies on the internet, so I decided to email a few. Reinself Wei, the travel consultant from Odyssey Tours, really impressed me. He was professional and helpful while he patiently custom tailored our trip. When we got to Guangzhou, he went above and beyond to make us feel at home. I was delighted when he called to check up on us, several times! Our tour guides in Guangzhou, Guilin and Shanghai (David, Frank and Avril) were fabulous and knowledgeable too! They made our tours fun! My favorite was Li River Cruise with David! I'd like to thank you all, especially Reinself, we wouldn't have had such an amazing trip if it wasn't for you! You have been a pleasure to communicate with and I will definitely be contacting you for our next trip!

Wonderful memories of our 12-day China trip, organized by Mr. Reinself Wei, Odyssey Tours. A perfect visit where every detail was attended to. We are proud to recommend Odyssey as of the highest quality, rating an A Plus, 10/10 and fa exceeding expectations.

Xi’an: A surprise snowfall made our visit here even more fun and challenging, climbing up the Ancient City Walls! We loved the Wyndham Hotel. Again, warm hospitality and a terrific selection of delicious food. Guide Peter Ma was very attentive and informative: driver very careful in winter snow conditions, and the vehicle fine. Peter anticipated possibility of being flexible in the following day’s schedule, although an alteration proved unnecessary. The Shaanxi History Museum was spectacular. Restaurants were great: Wyndham’s Chinese Restaurant for dinner; Lu Lin Ju Fan Zhuang for lunch; Hotel’s Tang Café for lunch and incredible dumplings at Defangchang.

Leila Deng
My China Odyssey Tour advisor, Leila Deng, did a great job of helping me get the most out of a brief two and half days in Shanghai by planning a good mix of sites and activities. My guide, Apple, was exceptionally knowledgeable and personable. From the ancient water village of Zhujiajiao to the Shanghai World Financial Center, Apple imparted as much history, culture, and future plans as I could absorb. She said that when residents stood on the Bund, facing across the Huangpu River, they had a saying, "behind me is history and in front of me is the future". I splurged on a hotel, staying on 12th floor of Les Suites Orient with a window on the Bund - and it was worth it, as the view was beyond fabulous, especially at night.

Don't miss the Exhibition of Urban Design and Planning. It had great photos of old Shanghai and the same spots today. It also has a spectacular three dimensional map of Shanghai and an almost virtual reality 360 degree movie as if on a train riding around the city. The Shanghai Museum, located right next door, is a fantastic window into the ancient history of China.

Finally, don't miss the Xiao Long Bao, or soup dumplings. Apple took me to a little local place, whose pork/crab/soup dumplings were the tastiest item I ate anywhere in China. And a place called House of Blues & Jazz had an exceptionally good roast suckling pig.

Thanks to China Odyssey for providing a memorable time in Shanghai.
