Itinerary

• Day 1: Datong, Arrival

  Upon your arrival in Datong, your private guide will greet you and take you to the hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure.

• Day 2: Datong, City Tour & Yungang Grottoes

  Today you will start to tour this time-honored city. Begin with the city highlights: Nine Dragon Screen and Huayan Temple, then have a 40-minute drive to Yungang Grottoes, to admire the vivid giant Buddha statues carved on rocky hills and be amazed by their beauty and artistic significance.

• Day 3: Datong - Pingyao, Qiao Family's Compound & Hanging Temple

  Head south to Pingyao in the morning. En route, stop to visit the incredible Hanging Temple, a 1,400-year-old wooden temple built on stilts against the cliff. Proceed to Qiao Family's Compound, a delicate residence of a famed merchant in Shanxi. Upon arrival in Pingyao ancient town, enjoy the time to stroll around on your own.

• Day 4: Pingyao, Departure

  Have a half-day tour to touch, learn and feel this ancient town. Start with the first bank of China, the Rishengchang Exchange Shop where you'll be surprised by the complete banking system in ancient China, followed by the Ancient City Wall. At last, stroll along the Ming and Qing Street to track the old time. Rest of the day is at leisure until your guide escorts you to the train station for the evening train to leave the ancient town.
