Hotel Arrangement for Comfortable Tour Class

Normally you'll stay at formal and large hotels conveniently located with shopping, dining and entertainment facilities nearby. Quality service, fully furnished rooms, restaurants, room service, fitness center and swimming pool (in very rare cases there is no pool) all together offer an above-average accommodation experience.
Usually good 4-star hotels are adopted or boutique hotels at request. Hotels best available will be arranged if no qualified choice, e.g. in remote area.

Hotel Arrangement for Deluxe Tour Class

Luxurious hotel with top-notch service and an extensive range of facilities for an excellent accommodation experience. Multiple restaurants on site with extensive menus for choice, room service available 24/7, fitness center and concierge service round out the experience. Hotels best available will be arranged if no qualified choice, e.g. in remote area.

Deluxe Hotel

Meals

Normally China Odyssey Tours provides two meals each day: Breakfast and Lunch. You will have the freedom to make your own dinner choice.

Breakfast

It is normally served at the hotel where you stay. Depending on the hotel, the breakfast would be in western style, Chinese style, or a combination.

A la carte lunch

When plan your lunches, we consider the balance of food quality, dining environment and tour convenience. We provide a la carte lunch in a local restaurant whenever possible. A la carte meal will give you an opportunity to eat at local restaurant, follow local customs, and taste local dishes. The a la carte allowance would be adequate for a decent meal in our recommended local restaurants, but varies from different restaurants and different cities. However in some remote regions where it’s simply hard to find a non-tourist restaurant, the meal could be arranged at a local tourist restaurant or a local family.

Your own dinner choice

Dinners will not be included in your meal plan unless you have that requirement. Enjoying the local food could be one of your best experiences in China. This is why we provide you this flexibility of food choice. Your private guide will always give you good suggestions based on your preferences.

If you have certain food allergies or special requirements such as vegetarian food, let us know. We will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Private Guide & Transfer

You will have a private tour guide, private driver, and an air-conditioned vehicle escorting you at every destination you travel. This will provide you with maximized personal care, security, and flexibility.

All of our tour guides are qualified professionals and registered English Speaking Tourist Guides in China who are reassessed annually. All of our tour vehicles are clean and in excellent condition, manned with licensed safe drivers.

Private Tour Guide

You will always be greeted punctually on arrival at each destination airport. At every departure, your guide will stay at your side until you have checked in and passed through the security checkpoint.

All of our travel guides in every destination are locals, who know the area well, they are very good at guiding you around and telling background stories of the tour sites, as well as showing you the secret spots for taking your best photos.

When changing your itinerary is needed due to unexpected reasons, your private tour guides will be more than accommodating in suggesting alternatives to ensure that you have a wonderful experience.

Private Transportation

With our comfortable and safe private transportation, your tour will be more relaxing and less tiresome, keeping you in the best spirits to make the most of your experience in China.

In every destination visited, your vehicle is air conditioned, clean, and expertly maintained. Your private driver is licensed, insured, and very experienced.

To maximize your comfort, we use vehicles with extra space for you and your luggage. Depending on how many are traveling together, we generally use sedans or mini vans (7 seats) for 4 people or less, large vans or small coaches (12-22 seats) for 5-12 people, medium coaches (33 – 37 seats) for 13 – 25 people, and large coaches (45 seats over) for more than 25 people.

Many thanks to everyone at Odyssey Tours. This was definitely a stress free
way to travel. From pick-ups and drop-offs at airports(we had 5 internal
flights) to whisking us through site and entertainment venues (Great Wall,
acrobatic show, Terra cotta warriors, etc.....). Everything went down
without a hitch.

Special thanks goes out to:

Femando who worked behind the scenes to make our trip flow as smooth as
China's silk.

To our Beijing guide, Babbitt, who not only had a great sense of humour, but
who also went way out of his way to make our 2 days in his city a
particularly memorable one - from changing our day tours to suit the
weather, accompanying us on the subway for a few stops just so we could
experience it and finding us a great place to have Peking duck then walking
with us back to our hotel so we could navigate it the next night on our own.

To our Guilin/Yangshuo guide, Vicky, who was not only helpful in her seating
advice for the Li Expression's Show, but went out of her way to retrieve my
poncho which I had dropped on my way out of the theater. She also took her
life(as well as our own) into her capable hands when she led us through the
traffic after our country bicycle ride in Yangshuo...She definitely should
get "danger pay" for her bravery.

I'd highly recommend Odyssey Tours to anyone.

My friends and I visited China for the first time in December, and we scheduled our Beijing trip through Odyssey Tours - it was great. The booking process was extremely easy and efficient. From the train station to our hotel and attractions, everything was arranged for us at a reasonable price. The guide sent all necessary info and contact numbers, so it was no problem getting where we needed to be even though we were totally out of our element. Our guide was very friendly, knew every single fact about our attractions (forbidden city, tienemen square & the Great Wall), and I said after the fact that I wouldn't have done that trip without a tour guide. If you're looking to maximize your experience and make everything easy, I recommend Odyssey.

I booked a twelve-day tour with Kalinda at China Odyssey. I emailed Kalinda dozens of times asking her various questions and getting the details of the tour perfect for my small group of seven. Throughout, Kalinda was patient and quickly addressed all my concerns.

Amanda, John, and Jesse were our guides in Beijing, Xian, and Guilin, respectively. The guide in each city picked us up at the airport/train station and dropped us off and checked us in at the airport/train station to get to the next city. The guides were on time each day, knowledgeable about their cities and each site we visited. They made great recommendations of restaurants and optional activities each evening (including shows and massages). Since our group just consisted of my family and 2 friends, when we wanted to stay longer somewhere, we were able to do so. If we wanted to have lunch first instead of visiting an attraction, our wishes were granted. If we didn't want to go to another shopping excursion, we were able to skip it. If you detest those shopping places like me, contact Kalinda and she will remove the shopping from your itinerary. Since our tour was the end of December and low tourist season in China, we did not have to deal with the crowds which was extremely nice.

Here are the highlights in each city.
Beijing
Since my wife and kids love slides, when we found out that the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall has a toboggan ride, we had checked it out and it was the best part of the whole trip. We took the chair lifts up and walked around that specific section of the Great Wall. Be sure you have walking shoes with good traction when you climb the Wall as there were many steps that are slippery and steep. Then we tobogganed down. There is a lever you depress if you want to speed up, or let go of the lever to slow down. We got up to 40 miles per hour and the toboggan ride down lasted more than 5 minutes. What a thrill! You have to try this if you are into slides or toboggans (even though the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall is farther away and costs more). The Pente Hotel in Beijing was clean, centrally located, and had good breakfast.
Xi'an
The Terri-Cotta Warriors were impressive in scale, but it was so bitterly cold (around 20 degrees Fahrenheit with wind chill) even in the pits that we did not enjoy the museum as much as we should have. We did tour a factory that currently reproduces Terri-Cotta Warrior replicas and got to make our own miniature warriors to take home. The kids (and adults) enjoyed the hands on experience. We also visited the home of a local Xi'an woman. She taught us how to make dumplings and stretch noodles from scratch and cook it. Then we ate the food that we helped to prepare. The Grand Nobel Hotel was clean with spacious bathroom (separate shower from tub) and had good breakfast.
Guilin
We leisurely cruised down Li River and enjoyed the beautiful mountains and scenery. The Guilin Bravo Hotel (former Holiday Inn) and Yangshuo New Century Hotel were not as nice as the ones in Xi'an and Beijing (worn down, cracked bathroom tiles).

Kalinda, Amanda, John, and Jesse made our trip to China great. I liked that I was able to customize the trip toward our likes/dislikes and the flexibility of our small group. I would *definitely* book another tour with China Odyssey if I ever come back to China.

Siem Reap, Cambodia
We had a horrible experience going through immigration on arrival. Even though the flight attendants informed us that only one form per family is needed, immigration wanted one form per person (including a separate form for our six year old daughter). The immigration officer refused to allow us to enter and when I asked where I can get more forms to fill out, he tells me "on the airplane" which was useless since we had already disembarked. Finally after many minutes of cold sweat and running around in circles, a supervising officer gave me the forms and we were allowed to enter.

TIP: When entering Cambodia, fill out one form per person even if the flight attendant reassures you only one per family is necessary!

TIP: Before you leave US to visit Cambodia, go to a bank and get 100 new one-dollar bills and other new US currency. You don't need any Cambodian Riels as long as you have crisp US bills. You will be able to pay for all purchases and services in US currency as long as the bills are not ripped, stained, or written on. If the US bills are ripped, stained, or written on, then the vendors will return your money to you and ask for bills in better condition.

The last portion of our trip was three days in Siem Reap with Indochina Odyssey. The tour guides (Vishna, Phally) were not as knowledgeable as their Chinese counterparts, and seemed not to understand some of our questions. The guides were less helpful when dealing with the hotels and airports. The highlight was seeing all the stars and the constellations before watching the sunrise from Angkor Wat. The Tara Angkor Hotel was clean with spacious bathroom (separate shower and tub), good breakfast, and nice New Year's Eve bash.

I don't think I will be signing up for another tour with Indochina Odyssey.

December through May is peak tourist season in Cambodia, so expect crowds at each attraction.

We booked our private guided late December tour with China Odyssey Tours based upon the very positive reviews we saw on Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed. This was the first time for both of us to Beijing, and Amanda was the perfect tour guide for us newbies. In the very short four days we spent in Beijing, she was able to give us a very informative, enlightening and comprehensive tour. In addition to guiding us to all the major sights, she provided guidance and direction for us when one of us became slightly ill, well above and beyond the call of an "average" tour guide. And many thanks to our driver, Mr. Lee (sp?), who guided us around the chaotic streets of the city with little difficulty.

I would HIGHLY recommend China Odyssey Tours to anyone visiting Beijing. Thank you to COT, and especially to Amanda and our driver Mr. Lee, for making our very short time in China most enjoyable. When we come back, I hope that they are both still with COT, as I will be specifically requesting them as our guides.

Sincerely,

Larry Maurer

We are nearing the end of a 71 day private Asian tour. Guilin, is a beautiful place to visit. We were picked up by Fei, our guide who was fantastic - very friendly and bubbly, excellent English, enthusiastic and loved to share information about her city with us. We had three nights here.
