Yangtze River Overview
About Yangtze River
If the Yellow River is the heart of China, then the Yangtze River is the soul. Meandering through vast chains of mountains, the Yangtze River runs more than 6300km through central and southern China before emptying into the East China Sea at Shanghai. It is the longest river in Asia and the third longest in the world.
The Yangtze River is an artery for China, very important economically. Its dramatic scenery and rushing waters were inspirational to many of China's painters and poets, and the distinct rock formations, the breathtaking cliffs as well as occasional small ancient towns continue to inspire and excite visitors today. The Yangtze Cruise is very enjoyable, and the incredible Three Gorges are just one part of the journey. The trip downstream is a relaxing affair and a great opportunity to observe life on the river. Whether you like it or not, it is worth considering the journey simply because it won't be long before the famed Three Gorges will be underwater and will be part of history.
