Shanghai Peach Blossom Festival to be Held in Late March
The Shanghai Peach Blossom Festival will be held in Chengbei Peach Orchard in Nanhui District from March 25th to April 11th, 2011. The festival will take place in Peach Blossom Village, a small beautiful village surrounded by peach plantations that cover an area of tens of thousands of acres in Shanghai suburbs.
Originally named Nanhui Peach Blossom Festival, the peach blossom festival was first held by Nanhui in 1991 and became an annual festival of Shanghai since then. It was renamed Shanghai Peach Blossom Festival in 2002 for increasing popularity among tourists at home or from overseas.
In China, people have a special love for peaches and peach blossoms. The peach blossom, with its pleasant flowers, symbolizes life, growth, and prosperity. The flowers, in a visual hierarchy due to the ascending or descending of colors, form a rosy sea. It is regarded as the most auspicious of all plants. The peach, in Chinese culture, is a symbol of long life and one of the strongest defenses against evil.
Featuring a mixed architectural style of Chinese ancient buildings, Peach Blossom Village offers not only picturesque scenery but also enjoyable cultural funs to visitors during Shanghai Peach Blossom Festival. The elegant peace leaves dance, funny pig sports meetings (pig race, pig hurdling, pig diving), and Chinese folk presentations have won seas of applause from visitors. Delicious local specialties, delicate craft works, beautiful scenic sights, and ancient peach trees all add charms to the festival.
Coinciding with Shanghai World Expo, Shanghai Peach Blossom Festival provides such an excellent chance that tourists could visit the grand Shanghai Expo and enjoy enchanting natural views, real rural lifestyles and cultural highlights at Peach Blossom Village in Nanhui.
