The Grand Canal of China, also known as the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, is the longest ancient canal in the world. It was first built in the Sui Dynasty. The Grand Canal communicates the north and the south in ancient times. It plays an important role in increasing the economic, political, and cultural communication between the north and the south.
On June 22th, 2014, the 38th session of UNESCO World Heritage's committee announced the Grand Canal as UNESCO World Heritage Site. Click here to read the full news.
