About Guizhou Province

Even for most Chinese people Guizhou is kind of mysterious. It is probably the poorest province in China and visitors to China's southwest tend to neglect it as they hurry towards Sichuan or Yunan. Brimming with dramatic landscapes, rich in minority culture, it is a province that would do well to feature on any traveler's itinerary.

The landscape outside the capital Guiyang appears almost otherworldly. Striking karst formations emphasize the scenery, dense green forests and cascading waterfalls appear unexpectedly, such as Huangguoshu Waterfall, the largest waterfall in China, and giant limestone caves stretch for miles beneath the earth, such as Zhijin Cave, the largest cavern in China. Due to the diversity of folk customs between different groups, Guizhou enjoys more folk festivals than any other province in China. And this has been the main attraction to outsiders. Spread out among the amazing countryside lives a lively mix of ethnic minority people, including the Miao famous for their silverware, and the Dong with their marvelous wooden architectures built without a single nail.

In a nutshell, Guizhou is an amazing land just waiting to be discovered!
