Meals

Normally China Odyssey Tours provides two meals each day: Breakfast and Lunch. You will have the freedom to make your own dinner choice.

Breakfast

It is normally served at the hotel where you stay. Depending on the hotel, the breakfast would be in western style, Chinese style, or a combination.

A la carte lunch

When plan your lunches, we consider the balance of food quality, dining environment and tour convenience. We provide a la carte lunch in a local restaurant whenever possible. A la carte meal will give you an opportunity to eat at local restaurant, follow local customs, and taste local dishes. The a la carte allowance would be adequate for a decent meal in our recommended local restaurants, but varies from different restaurants and different cities. However in some remote regions where it’s simply hard to find a non-tourist restaurant, the meal could be arranged at a local tourist restaurant or a local family.

Your own dinner choice

Dinners will not be included in your meal plan unless you have that requirement. Enjoying the local food could be one of your best experiences in China. This is why we provide you this flexibility of food choice. Your private guide will always give you good suggestions based on your preferences.

If you have certain food allergies or special requirements such as vegetarian food, let us know. We will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Private Guide & Transfer

You will have a private tour guide, private driver, and an air-conditioned vehicle escorting you at every destination you travel. This will provide you with maximized personal care, security, and flexibility.

All of our tour guides are qualified professionals and registered English Speaking Tourist Guides in China who are reassessed annually. All of our tour vehicles are clean and in excellent condition, manned with licensed safe drivers.

Private Tour Guide

You will always be greeted punctually on arrival at each destination airport. At every departure, your guide will stay at your side until you have checked in and passed through the security checkpoint.

All of our travel guides in every destination are locals, who know the area well, they are very good at guiding you around and telling background stories of the tour sites, as well as showing you the secret spots for taking your best photos.

When changing your itinerary is needed due to unexpected reasons, your private tour guides will be more than accommodating in suggesting alternatives to ensure that you have a wonderful experience.

Private Transportation

With our comfortable and safe private transportation, your tour will be more relaxing and less tiresome, keeping you in the best spirits to make the most of your experience in China.

Shanghai was our last stop. Ellie was great. She's very knowledgeable about Shanghai and other areas of China. Ellie didn't rush us and we were able to pick our tour time. She changed the schedule at times to better accommodate our time and make sure we saw everything on the itinerary. Ellie told us if we ever needed anything whether it's to translate or get info call her whenever, she will always be available for us. Any questions we asked she had answers. Ellie enjoyed taking pictures with us. She always took us to popular local restaurants and helped us pick out the best dishes. If we chose an item on the menu that she didn't know about she would speak to the waitress/waiter about it immediately to get clarification. She dressed professional, and acted polite and respectful. Ellie was eager to teach and explain things. She showed us what areas around our hotel we could visit on foot. At the maglev train station and during pickup/dropoff at the airport she was very helpful with our luggage. You can tell that Ellie loves her job and wants her customers to be satisfied. I found out that she loves to travel the world like me.

Our driver Tao seemed to be shy, he didn't talk much to us. When he picked us up he did smile and say hello. Maybe he didn't speak good English I'm not sure but the most important thing was he drove us to our destinations safely. That's what counts the most to me.

We went to the Acrobatic show which was fun. Don't plan to take pictures or video because it's not allowed. We visited Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Ctr (favorite site, so cool...MUST SEE!), Xintiandi includes visit to Wulixiang museum (cafes/shops, made me feel like I was in Europe, interesting to see how they lived in the early days in that area), East and West Nanjing Rd (dropped off, Ellie advised us that it was better to do on our own so we could go at our own pace...very true! One part is high end shops like Cartier, Gucci, etc. and the other is more affordable shops like Gap, H&M, etc....they have an Apple store too!), Yu Garden (magnificent place), Yuyuan Market (food festival was going on, lots of people/shops/vendors), People's Square, Former french section, Jin Mao building (awesome view from the top), Shanghai Old Street, Oriental Pearl TV Tower (enjoyed the glass floor at top, loved the view, large wax museum inside) and The Bund (people watched, had lunch, many couples out taking pre-wedding pics, perfect spot for pics of skyscrapers, *extra* full body/foot massage at hotel in area). We rode the maglev train to the airport just for the experience. The train takes about 7 mins when the drive would have been 30 mins or more.

We stayed 4 nights at Marriott Shanghai City Ctr in an executive room. We had the best hotel stay ever. We always had breakfast, dinner and snacks at the hotel. There was never a need to go outside of the hotel for food once we were in after touring. The customer service there was absolutely 5-6 star!

Shanghai was my favorite city on our tour of China, I guess because it reminds me of home and it's more modern.

I travelled to Shanghai with my husband, and my 13 and 9 year old... we had the most amazing time. From the moment Emma, our guide, met us at the airport, she dazzled us with his knowledge, caring attitude, information and we really felt that he wanted to show us his city and that it was important to him that we had the best time possible. The BUnd Hotel that the tour company chose was very centrally located and in a great area so we were able to walk around the city easily at night!

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend China Odyssey Tours if you are planning a trip to China... they really do everything for you and allow you to enjoy the sights, sounds, and culture of your vacation.

They were especially kind and accommodating to our children and we would absolutely use them another time! We cannot thank them for educating us on China is such a thorough and safe way.

What a great tour we had in Shanghai. Our driver Mr Lin and guide Alex were just tops and we so appreciated Alex's informative tour. We thoroughly enjoyed the Yu gardens, Silk World and the trip out to the water village. The hotel was good and comfortable, offering a good breakfast and the vegetarian lunch in the water village was delicious. Thank you so much for the great service offered. Would thoroughly recommend your company to anyone visiting in China. Shanghai was the first of three cities we visited and every city was the same high quality service.

This was my family's first trip to Asia and we did not know quite what to expect. After our 14 hour flight to Shanghai, we were warmly greeted by our guide, Ellie. Ellie was fantastic from the start, taking our luggage, making sure we had bottled water and even converting our US dollars for us at a better rate than what was being offered at the airport and hotel! We had packed a lot into the 2 1/2 days we were in Shanghai and Ellie made our visit so memorable. She spoke excellent English and we learned a lot about Shanghai and China from her. She always made sure we were comfortable, from making sure we had prime seats on the Huangpu River Cruise (highly recommend), to finding a Starbucks for us as we toured the Ancient water village of Zhujiajiao. When we requested to eat at Din Tai Fung, she seamlessly changed up our schedule to accommodate one of our best meals of the stay. She even bought my son (who had asked for some fresh fruit) some fresh dragon fruit, mango, lychees . . . for him to try while we ate dinner at a restaurant. Ellie, always looked out for our needs and was such a pleasure to talk to. I highly recommend Ellie and China Odyssey Tours.

Thank you China Odyssey for making our family trip turn out perfect. I was a little nervous making arrangements purely through email and a foreign country but everything turned out better than I could have hoped for. We submitted proposals to several companies; but the correspondence received from Andy at China Odyssey made my wife feel most comfortable. He responded the promptly (understanding there is a time difference) and was EXTREMELY thorough in his messages to me. He was very accommodating in working through creating our custom itinerary and the numerous questions we had.

We had Ellie as our tour guide and her personality matched perfectly with Shanghai, and was a perfect ending to our trip. We arrived in Shanghai and Ellie was waiting for us with a friendly smile. We have three young adult sons (22, 20, and 17) and she did a great job of providing background information and history to keep them all interested throughout the two days we spent with her. She was very interesting and was really opened up and interacted like a friend, not just a tour guide. She was very knowledgeable about all the city and was very helpful in every aspect of our stay. Ellie made or Shanghai portion of our trip extremely enjoyable and I would recommend her as a guide to anyone.
