In northern China, such as Beijing and Xi'an, there is often a noticeable temperature difference between day and night, sometimes reaching 10-15°C; we suggest you bring an extra layer for the evenings. October is also relatively dry, especially in the north, with less rainfall and plenty of clear days.

In southern China, such as Guilin, Yunnan, or Hangzhou, October remains relatively warm, with daytime temperatures often around 20-28°C (68-82°F). This is a good time to explore natural scenery, from karst landscapes and lakes to rice terraces, as the weather allows you to stay outdoors longer without the heat and humidity of previous months.

Is It Crowded to Travel in October?

Beijing

After autumn sets in, Beijing gradually cools down, with temperatures dropping to around 14-15°C (57-59°F) in October. If you visit the Great Wall in the middle or later period of this month, you will see the surrounding trees turn yellow and red in autumn. At Jinshanling Great Wall, you can plan a longer hiking route if you prefer fewer crowds and more open views.

For families or those who have an interest in pop culture, consider visiting Popland. It's a theme park built around Pop Mart characters, where you can shop for a wide range of blind boxes and take photos with figures like Labubu.

If you are interested in more seasonal atmosphere, Fragrant Hills Park is also a common choice. You will see red maple leaves across the hills, and you can choose light hiking routes depending on your energy level.

Shanghai
