Famous Pandas in China 2025
In China, cute pandas have always been popular and known as "national treasures". For the fans of pandas, every black and white plush ball is unique and precious, but some of them have become famous due to their special appearance and interesting personalities. People queued for hours just to see the charm of these panda celebrities. So, which giant panda bears make people so crazy and where do they live? Let's take a look together!
He Hua (Hua Hua) - Chengdu
He Hua (Hua Hua) is one of the most famous pandas in China right now. Her cute cartoon character is shown in the ads for the Chengdu 2021 Summer World University Games. And she even appeared on stage during the Spring Festival Gala with her keeper, Grandpa Tan.
Hua Hua is short, chubby, and easily recognizable with her fluffy fur. She's known for her laid-back attitude, always taking her time, and she doesn't get mad when other panda fellows take her food. This unique personality has made her very popular.
Currently, Hua Hua lives at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding with her twin sister He Ye. There is also a paradise for many other adorable pandas, including their America-born dad Mei Lan. Hua Hua's lovable nature has made her a favorite among panda fans.

Meng Lan - Beijing
Menglan, who lives in Beijing Zoo, is known as the "Third Prince of Xizhimen", reflecting his high popularity. Menglan is naturally intelligent and affectionate, unlike most pandas who are introverted and prefer quietness. Menglan goes crazy alone. When tourists crowded in front of the glass window to watch him, he would even lie on the glass and interact closely with them. The lively and active Menglan's unique skill is splitting on tree branches, like a "Kung Fu Panda". Menglan's "jailbreak" incident made him even more popular - once he cleverly flipped through the high fence and found his own enclosure. Although he was later lured back to the enclosure by the keeper with food, his intelligence and flexibility were known to the world.
Xiang Xiang (シャンシャン) - Chengdu
Xiang Xiang is a female giant panda born in Japan by giant panda Fairy and Bili in 2017. When she was young, her fur color was very special, once a light pink color, which was deeply loved by the Japanese people. Now she has grown up and returned to Chengdu, China, with a round head, innocent eyes, sensitive and elegant personality, called the "princess" by fans. Now Xiang Xiang lives in the Bifengxia base in Ya'an, a place very close to nature. It takes about an hour and a half by high-speed train from Chengdu to Ya'an, and at least 5 hours by plane from Tokyo to Chengdu. However, many of Xiang Xiang's Japanese fans still come from afar and wait for hours to see her. She is such a treasure loved by thousands of people!

Fei Yun - Dalian
You won't believe there is so-called "Beauty" in pandas until you meet Fei Yun. She is such a very pretty panda with a round face like a hamster, peanut-shaped dark circles under her eyes, and seems to be smiling all the time. She grew up with her friends Jin Hu and Miao Yin in Dalian Forest Zoo and is known as the "Three Treasures of Dalian". Feiyun is the first generation of "social media influencer" pandas because she is very cute in every move and has received countless likes on the short video platform. But don't be fooled by her cute face. She is physically strong and often wins fights with her friends. She is a super cool girl.
Qi Zai - Xi'an
Qi Zai is the only captive brown giant panda in the world, belonging to a rarer and more ancient subspecies of giant pandas - the Qinling subspecies. It is a national treasure among national treasures. Sichuan is well-known as the hometown of pandas, but in fact, there are also wild pandas in Shaanxi Province. Due to Qizai's special fur color, like milk chocolate, people named him after the alien "Qizai" in the movie. Qizai has a quirky personality, likes to support his chin with his hind legs, and his small eyes roll around as if thinking of some pranks. His recent famous story is that when he was chatting with panda Ah Bao through the window, he bit Ah Bao's ear. The injured Ah Bao covered his ear and was imitated by Qizai to show to another neighbor, Lele. Ah Bao's "wrench" ear unexpectedly made him popular, but the zoo said he only bit off some hair and would recover soon.

Fubao was born in South Korea and has become a star panda in the country. She returned to China on April 3, 2024, and lived in the Shenshuping Base of the Chengdu Giant Panda Research Center. Korean fans bid her farewell with tears. Some Korean journalists even visited the future home of Fubao in China in advance to investigate the living environment. They were very satisfied with the close-to-nature environment here. Many Korean netizens speculated whether Fubao would meet her future husband after returning home. They selected ideal candidate bears from young pandas of appropriate age, taking this opportunity to learn more about Chinese pandas and their protection measures, and wanted to visit them and Fubao in China. This is the benefit of "panda diplomacy"!
On June 12, 2024, Fubao met the public for the first time. From then on, you can visit her at the Shenshuping Giant Panda Base.
