Day 2: Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, Ming Xiaoling Tomb
Today, explore the imperial and republican heritage of Nanjing. Start with a visit to the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, dedicated to the "Father of Modern China" and a must-see for every visitor to Nanjing. Explore Meiling Palace, a picturesque villa once home to the Chiang Kai-shek family during the Republic of China era (1932-1947). Set amidst lush greenery, it is often called the "emerald inlaid in a necklace" from above. Next to it, visit the Ming Xiaoling Tomb, the burial site of the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty, featuring stunning stone sculptures and serene lanes. Day 3: Qixia Temple, Laomendong, Qinhuai River Cruise
Today's journey starts at Qixia Temple, a vibrant temple built during the Southern Qi Dynasty (B.C. 484). The temple's red walls, pagodas, and the Thousand Buddha Cliff make for a picturesque and peaceful setting - especially beautiful in autumn when the leaves turn crimson.
Then, return to the city and stroll Laomendong, a lively pedestrian district, filled with local delicacies and old buildings. In the evening, embark on a boat to cruise along the Qinhuai River, where you'll be enchanted by the illuminated buildings that line its banks.
