About This Trip
This 7-day journey links two historic capitals of China, revealing the legacy of imperial rule and the cultural depth of Jiangnan.
In Beijing, you step into the world of emperors as you walk through the vast courtyards of the Forbidden City, take in panoramic views from Jingshan Park, and explore the Great Wall of China at Mutianyu, one of its most scenic and well-preserved sections.
The journey continues south by high-speed train to Nanjing, once the capital of several dynasties. Here, ancient city walls, Confucian temples, tranquil mausoleums, and vibrant old streets together reveal a city where history and daily life remain closely intertwined.

Day 1: Beijing Arrival
Arrive in Beijing, China's historic northern capital. After landing, meet your driver and transfer to the hotel for check-in. The rest of the day is at leisure. You may take a short walk around the neighborhood, where wide avenues, leafy streets, and the rhythm of local life come together to shape your first impressions of the city.

Day 2: Imperial Palace & Hutong Flavors
Step into the grand courtyards of the Forbidden City, where Ming and Qing emperors ruled for nearly five centuries. Passing through imposing gates and marble terraces, you move deeper into the palace complex, where ceremonial halls and intricate architectural details bring to life the scale of imperial authority.
Later, climb Jingshan Park for panoramic views over the palace rooftops, which stretch out beneath you in perfect symmetry.
In the afternoon, wander through a traditional hutong neighborhood. Narrow lanes wind between courtyard houses, small family shops, and daily life unfolds in quiet corners.

Day 3: Temple of Heaven & Mutianyu Great Wall
Begin the morning at the Temple of Heaven, a masterpiece of Ming architecture once reserved for imperial ceremonies. Beneath the shade of ancient cypress trees, local residents gather to practice tai chi, play instruments, and enjoy their morning routines, bringing the park to life.
Later, travel to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. The Wall climbs along forested mountain ridges, with watchtowers rising at intervals along the ancient stone path. Take a cable car up to the wall, where you can walk along its historic pathways as sweeping mountain views unfold in every direction.

Day 4: Beijing - Nanjing
Board a high-speed train south to Nanjing, one of China's great historic capitals. The journey takes approximately 3.5 to 4.5 hours, passing ever-changing scenery along the way.
Upon arrival, step onto the Taicheng section of the ancient city wall, where you can take in views over the tranquil waters of Xuanwu Lake.
As evening approaches, lanterns begin to glow along the Confucius Temple Qinhuai Scenic Area, where traditional buildings line the historic Qinhuai River and lively streets come alive with the charm of old Jiangnan.

Day 5: Buddhist Splendor & Ancient City Gates
The day leads to the striking landscapes of Niushoushan Cultural Tourism Zone, home to the magnificent Foding Palace. Built deep into the hillside, creating a vast underground Buddhist complex, blends contemporary architecture with sacred symbolism.
Return to the city and visit the imposing Zhonghua Gate, the largest surviving city gate in China and an extraordinary example of Ming Dynasty military architecture, dating back over 600 years.
Nearby, the historic quarter of Laomendong Historic District, where restored traditional houses, artisan workshops, and tea houses line cobbled lanes, and the atmosphere unfolds at a more relaxed pace.

Day 6: Republican Legacy & Ming Imperial Tomb
Begin the day at the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, where a grand stone staircase ascends through pine-covered slopes toward the tranquil resting place of China's revolutionary leader.
Hidden within the surrounding woods is the elegant Meiling Palace, a distinctive residence linked to Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling during the Republican era.
The historical journey concludes at the magnificent Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, where the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty rests. The approach along the Sacred Way is lined with monumental stone animals and officials, creating one of China's most atmospheric imperial burial landscapes.
