Best of Fujian: Xiamen, Tulou and Mt. Wuyi

Itinerary

• Day 1: Arrival in Xiamen, Explore Gulangyu

  Welcome to Xiamen!

  Your tour guide will be waiting for you at the airport holding a board with your name on it. A comfortable private car will take you to your hotel for check-in.

  Be ready to explore Gulangyu in the afternoon. Drive to the tourist dock and transfer into a ferry boat to reach the island. Covering an area of less than 2 square kilometers, it is packed with various European-style buildings, breathtaking natural landscapes, and rich history. While walking on the island, the guide will lead you to visit the highlights spots including Shuzhuang Garden, the Piano Museum, and the bustling Longtou Road Commercial Street.

• Day 2: Xiamen - Nanjing County, Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster

  Today a 3 hours' drive will take you to Nanjing County for a visit to the world-heritage Fujian Tulou, a unique and traditional form of dwelling for Hakka lived in rural mountainous areas in the southeast of Fujian. Begin the tour at the typical representative of Tulou groups of Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster, continue to the well-preserved structure of the Yuchang Building with a history of more than 700 years, and then end the visit at the Taxia Village, where the buildings are rare, ancient but yet full of life.

• Day 3: Nanjing - Yongding - Xiamen, Hongkeng Tulou Cluster

  This morning you will head to Yongding District, home to the most well-known Hongkeng Tulou Cluster. The earthen buildings here were built in different times, in different forms and different sizes. Here, you will be surprised by the structure of the Zhencheng Building with two rings, marvel at the shape of the Kuiju Building that is similar to the Potala Palace in Tibet, and appreciate exquisite carvings of the Fuyu Building.

  Before transferring back to Xiamen, take an opportunity to make Minnan snacks with Hakka people. The easy-going host will teach you how to make Ci Ba and Yu Zi Bao.

• Day 4: Xiamen - Wuyi Mountain, Xiamei Ancient Dwellings

  After the journey of Tulou, you will take a high-speed train toward Wuyi Mount. Your local guide and driver are waiting for you at the railway station to transfer you to your hotel. Hotel check-in and enjoy some relaxing time.

  Spend the afternoon exploring Xiamei Village, the first stop of the "Tea Road" in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties. While walking around the village filled with ancient dwellings featuring exquisite brick, stone, and wood carvings, you will be immersed in the rich history and culture of this area and get a sense of calm and serenity from the native people.

• Day 5: Wuyi Mountain, Tianyou Peak & Bamboo Rafting down Jiuqu Stream

  One of the important spots in Wuyi Mountain should be Tianyou Peak with just about 400 meters above sea level. After climbing up the stairs to the top, you will be rewarded with the unrivaled landscape. Later in the afternoon, take a bamboo rafting down Jiuqu Stream, also called Nine-bend Stream, to get close to the picturesque scenery. During the cruise, you can see cliff coffins, which are relics of the ancient Yue people's funeral traditions.

• Day 6: Wuyi Mountain, Taste of Tea Culture

  Besides the rich history and breathtaking scenery, Wuyi Mountain is also famous for its tea culture.

  This morning you will go to a tea plantation at Wuyi Mountain and learn how to make tea from tea-leaves. At the end of April, you may also have a chance to try tea-picking. Later, pay a visit to Da Hong Pao Scenic Area. Here you can enjoy the view of the tea plantation and taste Da Hong Pao-one of the Top Ten Famous Tea in China.

• Day 7: Wuyi Mountain - Xiamen, Departure

  Enjoy a leisure morning. Your guide will meet you at the hotel at the appointed time and then transfer you to the station for your train back to Xiamen, where you can take a connecting train/flight conveniently.
