Tour route: Beijing - Xi'an - Guilin - Shanghai
Today’s tour begins with a visit to Tiananmen Square and the magnificent Forbidden City with its palace complex of 9,999 buildings across 74 hectares, surrounded by a six-meter-deep moat and a ten-meter wall.
In the afternoon, come across the old Beijing by entering into the Hutongs, where you will have a leisurely walk into the local Beijingers’ daily life. What’s more, you can try your hands to paint a facial make-up of Peking Opera on a paper model and visit a cricket trainer and listen to his story about cricket fighting.
Today, you will spend the morning at the Temple of Heaven, a truly perfect site full of history and architecture wonder combined with local atmosphere. There, you can see and even take part in Tai Chi morning exercise with the locals.
In the afternoon, go to railway station for high-speed train to Xi’an. The train will arrive in Xi’an after about five hours, a local tour guide will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel.
The highlight of today is the awe-inspiring Terracotta Warriors. You will have enough time to marvel at the grand array with thousands of lifelike clay soldiers, horses and chariots in life size. Visit Xi’an Art Ceramic Factory afterwards and then go back to the city and take a calligraphy class at the historical Small Wild Goose Pagoda.
In the evening, you are recommended to enjoy the optional Tang Dynasty Show if you are interested in Chinese traditional musical and clothes.
Today you will have a chance to visit a local family and learn how to make dumplings, stretch noodles, and some other homely dishes. If time permits, you can go to the market with the host, and also visit the local Mahjong House to feel the Chinese leisure life.
After lunch, continue to visit the Muslim Street and enjoy shadow puppet show at Gao's Courtyard before your guide escorts you to the airport your flight to Guilin, the most scenic city in China. Upon your arrival, your personal guide will meet you and escort you to your hotel.
After breakfast, get ready for a leisurely Li River Cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo. You will be driven to the pier (40-50 minutes’ drive) to embark on the cruise. While sailing on the crystal-clear water, you will be offered views of peculiar rock formations and lush greenery. As you're enjoying the breeze on the deck, spot water buffaloes and pass by local villages. After the cruise, transfer to your hotel in Yangshuo. Later, take a countryside tour by bicycle or by a car at your pleasure to feel the laid-back ambiance of Yangshuo.
If you'd like more activities in Yangshuo, an optional show of Impression Liu Sanjie is heartily recommended.
Discover Shanghai like a local as you walk along the off-the-beaten-track Shanghai Urban Area (about 1 hour light walking) through the Maoming Road, Bugaoli old buildings and Fuxing Park, with stops to immerse yourself in the daily life of the Shanghai neighborhood.
Later, take a stroll through the quiet Yu Garden and get a taste of Shanghai’s local life in the Yuyuan Market. Continue to the Jiangnan Silk Workshop and witness the skyline of Shanghai city on the 100th floor of the Shanghai World Financial Center. Finally, finish the tour with a relaxing strolling on the Bund.
In the evening, you can to do some further exploration on your own or choose to see the famous acrobatic show which will provide you visual feast.

It will meet the basic requirements for a comfortable stay, good size and clean guest rooms with AC, TV, hot water, shower and private bathrooms. On-site restaurants with breakfast included and lunch or dinner at your own pick up. A small fitness center or spa can be expected.
Hotel Arrangement for Comfortable Tour Class
Normally you'll stay at formal and large hotels conveniently located with shopping, dining and entertainment facilities nearby. Quality service, fully furnished rooms, restaurants, room service, fitness center and swimming pool (in very rare cases there is no pool) all together offer an above-average accommodation experience.
Usually good 4-star hotels are adopted or boutique hotels at request. Hotels best available will be arranged if no qualified choice, e.g. in remote area.
Hotel Arrangement for Deluxe Tour Class
Luxurious hotel with top-notch service and an extensive range of facilities for an excellent accommodation experience. Multiple restaurants on site with extensive menus for choice, room service available 24/7, fitness center and concierge service round out the experience. Hotels best available will be arranged if no qualified choice, e.g. in remote area.
Normally China Odyssey Tours provides two meals each day: Breakfast and Lunch. You will have the freedom to make your own dinner choice.
It is normally served at the hotel where you stay. Depending on the hotel, the breakfast would be in western style, Chinese style, or a combination.
When plan your lunches, we consider the balance of food quality, dining environment and tour convenience. We provide a la carte lunch in a local restaurant whenever possible. A la carte meal will give you an opportunity to eat at local restaurant, follow local customs, and taste local dishes. The a la carte allowance would be adequate for a decent meal in our recommended local restaurants, but varies from different restaurants and different cities. However in some remote regions where it’s simply hard to find a non-tourist restaurant, the meal could be arranged at a local tourist restaurant or a local family.
Dinners will not be included in your meal plan unless you have that requirement. Enjoying the local food could be one of your best experiences in China. This is why we provide you this flexibility of food choice. Your private guide will always give you good suggestions based on your preferences.
