About This Trip
Chengde Mountain Resort was once the summer villa of the emperor of the Qing Dynasty. This 6-day tour will take you to explore this imperial mountain resort and the best of Beijing. Discover the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace. Hiking the unfrequented Jinshanling Great Wall. What's more, you'll discover the Lesser Potala Palace nearby Beijing, play Taichi at Temple of Heaven, savor local snacks at Food Market, and explore the old Hutongs.

Day 1: Welcome to Beijing, China
Upon your arrival at the Beijing airport, your personal guide will meet you and escort you to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to relax and recover from jet lag.

Day 2: Beijing, Majestic Palace
This morning you will take a short stroll on Tiananmen Square. Later, discover the amazing Forbidden City with its palace complex of 9,999 rooms across 72 hectares, surrounded by a six-meter deep moat and a ten-meter wall. It gives new meaning to the word "epic".
In the afternoon, continue to visit the Summer Palace and enjoy a 15-minute boat ride on Kunming Lake if weather permits.
Optional: If you're interested, take in a thrilling Chinese Kung Fu Show at night as your optional entertainment.

Day 3: Beijing - Chengde
Today you will marvel at the awesome Great Wall (Jinshanling section, about 2.5 hours' drive), the 8th Wonder of the World. Staying away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Jinshanling Great Wall is definitely an ideal place to discover the original feature of the Great Wall and enjoy the tranquility of the grand mountains. Afterward, take another 1.5 hours' drive to Chengde and spend overnight there.

Day 4: Chengde - Beijing
About 230km afar from the Forbidden City, Chengde Imperial Mountain Resort was the summer retreat and hunting ground of the Qing emperors. Assembling a variety of gardens, temples, and palaces, and perfectly compromised with the surrounding natural landscapes, it is a culmination of Chinese architecture.
Today, you will be led to explore the resort and visit the Puning Temple and Putuo Zongcheng Temples. The former has adopted Tibetan and Han styles both, and the latter was modeled after the Potala Palace in Lhasa. So if you don't have a chance to visit Tibet, they may body your imagination of the Potala Palace and Lhasa.
In the afternoon, drive about 3.5 hours back to Beijing.

Day 5: Beijing
Have a more leisurely day in the city and discover the daily life of Beijingers. Your discovery will start from a food market where you can take soymilk, fired bread, or steamed buns as your breakfast, just as the locals usually do. Afterward, get to the Temple of Heaven to see the colorful retired life of Chinese people: practicing calligraphy on the ground with a huge bush, playing traditional Chinese instruments, singing or dancing, playing Tai Chi or Kungfu. You can also learn Tai Chi from a master.
In the afternoon, explore some Hutongs that have not been spoiled much by modern tourism and get an in-depth understanding of the history, culture, and life of Hutong at the Hutong Museum.

Day 6: Beijing, Departure
You will have your own time at leisure until be transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
