Itinerary

• Day 1: Datong, Huayan Temple & Nine Dragon Screen

  Your journey commences as you arrive in Datong. Our guide will escort you from the train station to the magnificent Huayan Temple. Walk along its stone paths through the eaves and doors and admire the colorful Buddha statues.

  Later, visit the Nine Dragon Screen, a colorful glazed wall adorned with nine dragons, each with a different posture, representing supreme power in China. After the tour, check into your hotel and rest up for even more captivating adventures the next day.

• Day 2: Datong, Yungang Grottoes & Hanging Temple

  Embark on a fascinating tour beginning at the Yungang Grottoes, where you'll find hundreds of caves of various sizes carved into the Wuzhou Mountain over a kilometer long. In the caves, read the exquisite craftsmanship from its solemn Buddha statues and colorful paintings.

  The tour goes with a visit to the Hanging Temple, an architectural marvel between cliffs. The beautifully carved railings and uniquely patterned doors and windows seem to soar above the high cliffs. Ascend to the temple and marvel at its stability, which remains unaffected even if the supporting pillars below were removed.

• Day 3: Datong - Pingyao, Wang Family Compound

  A morning bullet train will bring you to Pingyao, another fascinating city with a history spanning over 2,700 years. In this ancient city, you will first explore the majestic Wang Family Compound, the home of a once-wealthy merchant, and be struck by the distinctive Ming and Qing dynasties architectural styles and the elegant structure of the houses.

• Day 4: Pingyao, Departure

  Spend the morning exploring Pingyao Ancient City. Visit Rishengchang Exchange Shop, a small courtyard serving as the cradle of China's national banking industry and once controlling the economic lifeline of the entire Qing Dynasty in the 19th century. Climb the ancient city wall and gaze upon the old city. Wander through Ming and Qing Street, historically Pingyao County's most prosperous commercial center. In the afternoon, your guide will escort you to the train station for the train to your next destination.
