Day 1: Beijing Arrival
You've just arrived in Beijing! Your guide meets you at the airport and takes you to your hotel, but keep your eyes open along the way - towering skyscrapers sit next to old courtyard homes, bicycles weave through traffic, and street vendors sell snacks you might want to try later.
After checking in, take a short walk around the neighborhood to stretch your legs, explore local streets, and get your first taste of the city's lively energy and layered urban landscape.

Day 2: Forbidden City & Central Axis City Tour
Enter the Forbidden City through the Meridian Gate, where grand halls, painted beams, and ornate roofs reveal centuries of imperial life. Stroll from ceremonial courtyards to quiet residential quarters, noticing symmetry and details that shaped daily routines for emperors and officials.
Next, explore Beijing's northern Central Axis on foot. Start at the imposing Drum Tower, once the city's timekeeper. Then visit Guangfu Temple, a Ming-era Daoist site that now presents the history of Shichahai. End at Shichahai, where hutong alleys, courtyard homes, and waterfront cafés blend traditional life with modern leisure.

Day 3: Temple of Heaven & Mutianyu Great Wall
After breakfast, head to the Temple of Heaven. Alongside its historic altars and courtyards, you'll see locals practicing morning exercises, including taichi, diabolo spinning, square dancing, and other lively routines, offering a vivid glimpse of daily Beijing life.
Then, drive about 1.5 hours to the Mutianyu Great Wall. Walk along stone ramparts, climb watchtowers, and experience the Wall's scale, defensive design, and ingenious engineering.
Return to the city, leaving time to relax or enjoy a bowl of local zhajiangmian at your own pace.

Day 4: Morning Market & Beijing to Shanghai High-Speed Train
Start the day at a Beijing morning market, sampling local breakfast specialties and trying a variety of traditional foods before departing. You may also watch locals enjoy the traditional douzhi (fermented mung bean soup). If you'd like to give it a try, it will be quite a challenge.
Transfer to Beijing South Station and board a high-speed train for the five-hour journey to Shanghai, enjoying one of China's most advanced transport experiences.
After arrival, check in to your hotel and take a brief evening stroll. Skyscrapers, neon-lit shops, and bustling streets offer a sharp contrast to Beijing's historic lanes, giving a first taste of Shanghai's vibrant, modern energy.
