Continue into Yu Garden, a traditional Chinese garden of rockeries, pavilions, and ponds set in the city's old core. A short walk leads to Shanghai Old Street, with narrow lanes, local shops, and everyday street life that still follows an old Shanghai rhythm.

  In the afternoon, visit a silk workshop to learn how raw cocoons are transformed into silk, offering a close look at traditional craftsmanship before continuing to Shanghai Museum East. • Day 3: Day Trip to Xitang Ancient Water Town

  Xitang Ancient Town is just an hour's drive from Shanghai, but stepping into it feels like entering another era. This well-preserved water town is a quiet maze of stone alleyways, whitewashed walls, and tree-lined canals that have retained much of their traditional character over the centuries.

  Stroll at a leisurely pace and let yourself get a little lost. Then hop on a small boat for a gentle ride along the waterways, drifting beneath low stone bridges as the town reflects in the water around you. This is the kind of place that slows you down, in the nicest possible way.

  This morning, join a small-group cycling and brunch experience through Shanghai's Former French Concession. Riding vintage bicycles along tree-lined avenues and past historic residences, you'll explore one of the city's most characterful neighborhoods as locals.

  Along the way, pause at several local eateries to sample a variety of Shanghai favorites like soup dumplings and scallion pancakes. The ride is designed to mix easy cycling with real neighborhood eats.

  The rest of the day is at leisure. Wander into a cafe, take a quiet stroll at your own pace, or simply relax.
