Itinerary

• Day 1: Arrival in Chengdu

  Touch down in Chengdu and you'll be met at the airport and transferred directly to your hotel. Settle in, and if time and energy allow, you may wish to take a gentle first walk through the city and ease into Chengdu's relaxed rhythm.

• Day 2: Pandas and Chengdu's Local Life

  Your morning visit to the panda base works best with an early start. The pandas are most active during the cooler hours, and you'll have time to watch them feed, climb, and move around their enclosures without the mid-morning crowds.

  From there, a short drive takes you to Wenshu Monastery, a well-known Buddhist temple in the city. Quiet courtyards and light incense reflect its long-standing religious heritage.

  Then head to People's Park. Experience Chengdu's everyday rhythm in a traditional teahouse, where you will taste covered-bowl tea. Observe locals playing mahjong under the trees and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere that defines the city's slow-paced lifestyle.

• Day 3: Chengdu to Mt. Siguniang via Dujiangyan

  Leaving Chengdu behind, the journey heads northwest to the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, a 2,000-year-old water management system that still regulates the flow of the Min River. The diversion dam, spillway, and irrigation channels remain in continuous operation, reflecting how ancient engineering continues to support agriculture in the surrounding region.

  From here, the route continues toward Mount Siguniang (Four Girls Mountain), as the landscape gradually shifts from lowland plains into rising mountain valleys of western Sichuan.

• Day 4: Changping Valley and Mt. Siguniang

  Today focuses on the dramatic alpine scenery of Mount Siguniang, known for sharp granite peaks, glacier-carved terrain, and broad alpine meadows. Trails through Changping Valley follow mountain streams beneath steep cliffs, passing grazing yaks and scattered Tibetan shelters across the river basin.

  Later, time in Siguniang Mountain Town offers a closer look at daily life in this high-altitude trekking hub, with Tibetan-style homes, outdoor gear shops, and roadside cafés serving travelers passing through the area.

• Day 5: Shuangqiao Valley and Tibetan Danba

  This morning explores Shuangqiao Valley in Mount Siguniang, a broader and more open landscape than Changping Valley, with glacier-fed rivers, wide alpine basins, and distant snow peaks extending deep into the mountains.

  From the Siguniang area, the route descends toward Danba, a region marked by steep river corridors lined with hillside settlements and ancient stone watchtowers. In Jiaju Tibetan Village, whitewashed homes, terraced farmland, and narrow stone lanes reflect a mountain lifestyle developed over generations of Tibetan community life.

• Day 6: Suopo Watchtowers and Tagong Grasslands

  Begin with a visit to Suopo, home to some of western Sichuan's best-preserved Tibetan watchtowers rising above cultivated slopes and traditional stone houses.

  Continuing west, the landscape opens dramatically onto the grasslands around Tagong. Black yak tents, grazing herds, prayer flags, and monastery complexes define the plateau scenery, while the town itself shows the strong influence of nomadic Tibetan culture.

• Day 7: Tagong to Moxi via Xinduqiao

  Depart Tagong along high mountain roads crossing broad plateau terrain and river corridors of the region. Weather permitting, distant views of Mount Gongga appear above the surrounding ranges.

  Passing through Xinduqiao, the scenery combines Tibetan farmhouses, poplar groves, and open pastureland before the road descends into forested gorges leading toward Hailuogou Glacier Forest Park. By late afternoon, arrive in Moxi Ancient Town, the main gateway settlement to the glacier zone beyond.

• Day 8: Hailuogou Glacier Forest Park

  Today explores Hailuogou Glacier Forest Park, known for massive glacier tongues descending directly into dense mountain forests. Ice formations, waterfalls, mist-covered valleys, and subtropical vegetation create a striking contrast rarely seen in China's mountain landscapes.

  Cable cars and mountain walkways provide access to glacier viewpoints overlooking crevasses, ice walls, and forested slopes beneath the encircling snow mountains.

• Day 9: Return to Chengdu

  Leave the highlands behind and return east toward Chengdu as plateau scenery gradually changes back into lowland farmland and urban districts of the Sichuan Basin. The remainder of the day is at leisure to enjoy shopping, exploring the city at your own pace, or trying Sichuan hotpot, which would be a perfect ending for your 9-day adventure.

• Day 10: Departure from Chengdu

  Transfer to the airport for departure. Over the past 10 days, the journey has connected the lowland cities of Sichuan with alpine valleys, Tibetan grasslands, mountain monasteries, and glacier landscapes deep in western Sichuan.
